The only way I'm going to say use redhat, is if you have an onboard soundcard, and are directly connected to the internet either through a modem or router, wireless cards are a PAIN to set up. I'm rather new to Linux, but in the time I've messed with it, I've tried Redhat, Fedora Core 3 (Based off of Redhat), and Gentoo. So far the only one I've been remotely close to getting up and running right was Gentoo, but I couldn't ever get the OS mounted to my partitions, but that's a whole 'nother story.
If you have a wireless card or aftermarket soundcard, then I don't recommend Redhat, as so far Redhat, nor FC3 have recognized the drivers for my Soundcard and Wireless card. Of course, I could be doing something wrong, but I've talked with at least 10 people so far and they say it is a major pain to set them up.Comment

If you just want to try linux to see if you like it, the best distro to use would probably be knoppix. In knoppix, you can "live boot" straight from the cd and not have to worry about partitioning and the dual boot hasseles that come with installing multiple OS's on one HD
But what do I know, I'm only a retard.
