Went snowboarding for the first time toy

My body really hates me right now, how do you guys that do it do it? I did a better job sliding down the mountain on my face. Or is a 6'4" 280 pound man have no right to be atemping what somewhat resembled snowboarding?

I found out one thing, once you crack that tailbone against the ground at any rate of speed that will take the fight out of just about anyone (that has a tailbone anyway, I can't speak for the freaks)

Now I need to decide to give it another go once my *** heals or should I just stick with paintball.

hahaha I remember the first time I went. I feel yea even though im not as big as you im 6' 5" 235-240 and when I fall I fall hard. But ive been boarding like 8 years now but in the beginning I hated it. The first time you go you'll hate it. The second time you go its a little better. Once youve been a few times and can ride without falling then it starts to get fun. Then once you start doing jumps and rails its even more fun. Then someday you'll forget all about paintballing. trust me.

Yeah. It takes a couple times to get used too. You'll have a sore butt and knees. That sounds bad... I'll give you a tip though. Don't keep your keys in your front pocket. I fell on those once and it left a pretty nasty mark in a bad place.

If I'm recovered good enough from my surgery I should be able to go riding on spring break I can't wait!

ain't that the truth, the instructor did say the bindings on my rentals looked like they were a little too far apart, and with step in bindings my rear foot wasn't lockig in right (worst wipeout was when I thought I'd gotten the hang of it (ie. I hadn't faceplanted yet) my foot kicked out of the binding and down I went, next time I may get a board thats set up goofy because I found I did best when I was going backward.

I took lessons for a day on my first time. I hated it and skiied the next two days. The next year I decided I wanted to snowboard again and instantly managed to do it without a problem.

Look into a hardboot setup in a little bit.

However, in all honesty, do not think that rails and jumps are snowboarding. They're just a part of it. You'd probably have a ton more fun doing some amazing carves down the steeps.

Don't venture into the park until you can carve. I personally hate the park, as I feel that it's just boring. While I'll probably be flamed for it, I stand by my idea of learning to carve first. Sure, you could go out and do some jumps, but wouldn't it be more gratifying to learn how to carve first? Just a tip...

Seven Springs has gotten close to 10" today. Awesome.

Learn the basics first, and NEVER give up. Also, don't be pressured by your friends to go to the park and "dude, like, uh, like, let's totally, like, hit DA jumps, Dawg!"

Quick tip: Never listen to music while boarding/skiing. Nothing is more dangerous than screwing with your senses...

              Except maybe riding while drunk...

no I agree theres nothing better than a powder day on a double black diamond or backcountry run as long as you dont have to hike out. the problem is in southern california we dont get those very much. thats why I learn to ride in the park because then I can have fun an hour from my house as opposed to driving 6 hours to Mammoth, Tahoe, or Utah for powder. Dont get me wrong though, I do love carving in powder.

But hes right. learn the basics first. Terrain comes naturally the more comfortable you feel.

Yeah. My friends and I have actually gotten sick of the terrain parks. It's party because the park at our mountain was crap, but mostly because we're to lazy. It's fun to cruise down the mountain, but when we start jumpin and doing rails we end up hurting ourselves. For us, it's more of a social event to go to the mountain. We're locals so we know everyone and just hang out. Leave the terrain park for the punk kids and tourists. It's always to crowded.

Bluestrike is definetly right about the music. I tried riding with headphones last year. It's tricky. Normally when you start riding over ice you can hear it. It takes a couple extra seconds with headphones on to realize your on ice and by then you're probably screwed up.

music gives me the balls to jump higher or try different stuff when im listening to it. I never try anything really technical with headphones though. Like rails with more than one kink scare the hell out of me when im not paying full attention. Ahh i remember justa few years back when I was invincable....

It's not msart to listen to music, at least while trail riding. It makes it hard to hear if anyone is coming up behind you real fast or anything similar. I dont know how you guys do terrain. I've tried it and it was alright, but maybe I just suck at it. I love trail riding though. So much more exilerating. I feel free while doing so.

I went last night. 5*, not much power, and pretty icey. But there was no wind, which was great.

its hard the first few times, first thing i found was helping me was learning how to stop and stop well. after that, i took that information, and transwered it into carving. stopping toe side and heel side are what really matter, carving is the dsame, just to a lessrr extreme. remember control with the front, ans steer with the back. you will get it soon enough
