Notebook buying help?

My personal favorite notebook manufacturer is Sager. A few of the main reasons that I like them is that they have a firm reputation in longevity and performance. They also have a good offering of AMD based processors which gives them an advantage over "Intel-only" notebook manufacturers.

Like I said, that's the one I've been looking at. It got pretty good ratings in PC World, if I remember right it actually got a best buy award. Keep in mind that although the TOTAL RAM is the same, the toshiba has one 512mb chip and the averatec has two 256mb chips.Originally posted by tony3Comment

Here is what I just bought. Or, more accurately, what my wife made me buy her

Its a Fujitsu lifebook.
P4 3.2
128 meg nvidia or ati (can't remember right now)
1 gig of ram
60 gig HD
17" monitor that is absolutely beautiful
Fujitsu makes quality stuff. I know someone who works at the Microsoft campus in Redmond, WA, and all he ever sees on the campus is IBMs and Fujitsus.Comment

im sorry todownplay daysprings advice, but please avoid compaq like the plague. i had one and it was a piece of crap, never ever worked right, and it pissed me off to no end., i thought with the hp buy out, they may get better, but alas, it appears i was wrong. my friend has one her ein the dorms, and it very rarely works correctly as well,
where as my toshibas have always been performers.
current toshiba is a
toshiba portege m200
80 gig hd
2.0 pentium m processor
nvida gforce fx card
its awesome, the tablet funcntion is amazingly nice, as i use it to take notes. its light as hell, slim, and has amaing batterylife. i wholeheartedly reccomend this laptop, despite its heafty pricetag (2500, but with more features than a damn alienware)
i would avoid avertec, not a brand name i am familiar with, and when it comes to laptops, i really trust the brand names that i know will perform.
good luck in your decision, but remember, buy toshiba
also, look into the A25 if you can find one, it is an amazing book, its what i had before this, and i loved it. i still miss it actually

Eh, our company decided to avoid Toshiba on this year's tech refresh.Originally posted by magman007good luck in your decision, but remember, buy toshiba
Over the past year, we've gotta about a 1 in 5 return rate for something breaking. (about 50 returns last year)
Yes, they are covered under warrenty, but we feel the quality has taken a dive in the last few years.
So this year, we went with IBM.
Take that for what it's worth.Shaun Nelson --- old, fat, slow.... did I mention lazy? I ate all the pies

huh, i hadnt noticed a quality drop, but then again, ive only owned 2 of their products. but i know alot of other people that own toshiba products as well, and they have all praised them. Im sorry to hear of these problems. Ibm is a great product as well, and i wont put them down of course.
