    Built (building) a poker table

Finally built a table out here at Wash U.:

So far I haven't spent any money, using extra plywood that someone got a refrigerator shipped in. And the stain and tools already had. Going to home depot and walmart tonight to buy some felt, foam and vinyl. The table is 66 inches by 36 inches. Small by poker standards, but most games here don't go above 6 people before they start splitting into seperate games and hey, I wasn't about to go out and buy lumber.

Basically, I took two pieces of half inche plywood and rounded all of the corners. One of the sheets I set aside as a base and the other I further cut two more rounded rectangles into, one 3 inches in and the other 7 inches in. Thus I was left with 3 pieces. The outer most piece will serve as a hand rail, with foam ontop of it and then a vinyl wrap over it. The middle piece has been stained and will be darkend again tommorow and then coated with polyerithain (sp?) several times to give it a very clean finish. This is the "beer rail", just a hard wood face that stuff can be put on. The inner most piece is the actual playing surface, which will have felt on it and then placed within the other two. The outer rail is glued down, while the beer rail is screwed in, but removable and the playing surface is easily removed so you can replace the felt when needed.
