B/S moving violation::

Ok so im driving down the road, going to make fun of ricers, and the guy infront of me pulls over so i got up next to him, as far out of the road as possible, and asking him how to get back to the interstate because i was getitng bored, and i saw somes casr rapidly approaching so i put oin my hazard lights (i was about halfway in the road, car was on and in gear and didnt have the handbrake on) and it turned out it was 8 cops behind me going to break up some streetracing that was about 10 blocks away on a different road..the cop was a beeotch and said it was illegal to have my hazard lights on if nothing was wrong with my car and its ilelegal to be stopped i tnhe middle of the road, and had me rev my engine becuase she thought i had loud exhaust and tried to give me a ticket for that but i *****ed at her for it (i have stock SLP LM dual crossover exhaust) so i got a ticket for obstructing the roadway, when all i was doing was pulling to the side as much as i could to ask for directions, and saw cars approaching so i pout hazard lights on so they wouldnt hit me.......luckily my parents are lawyers so wer fighting it, but what do you all think?

Not to be mean - but your car was stopped for a non-emergency situation and was partially in a lane intended for traffic? Your screwed because your in pretty clear violation if that is the case.

From a moral stand point you did nothing wrong. However the legal standpoint is different. I'm guessing you wouldnt have had such a ticket if they werent going to bust a street racing posse. You're parents are lawyers...that must lead to interesting dinner table conversations.

Sounds like guilty by association. You were 10 blocks from a group of people street racing. I'm guessing you weren't driving a beige Volvo station wagon, so you might have looked like you were late to the party. Did you at least ask the cop how to get back to the interstate? Might have added some credibility to your story if you are planning on fighting it.

you coulda just said your car was acting funny and you wanted to pull over. tell him it was reving too high and not accelerating and you didnt want to burn the transmission or something. Thats what I would do and it would be hard for him to prove otherwise.

ah but it is too late to say something was wrong with the car. you already told the cop you were just asking for directions. if your record is clean, it is likely the judge will toss it out/suspend it.

actually the cop never gave me a change to give my side of the story, she just assumed i was there for street racing and assumed i was parked (car off) in the middle of the street, im gonna go back soon and take pics to show how far away from the address she put i actually was, and show how far off teh road i was and use my photography skills to show i wasnt bocking the road at all..

In June 2001 my friends all wanted to go to the street races. I had never been so I thought, sure why not. I drove my "unstock" 1965 Mustang w/350+ hp to go and just watch them. But, you know what happens when you show up to the races with a fast caar...everybodies yelling for you to race. I raced a little ricer up to about 30mph until I noticed he was behind like 2 car lengths so I just stopped and he drove away looking stupid. I was about to head home when my friend came running up to my window telling me about this '00 Camaro w/heads, intake and exhaust...well, I gave in. We lined up, roasted them for a few seconds and let it rip. We were ROLLIN!! First gear, he pulled, second, me, third him, fourth, me. Until we were probably going 100!! I ended up winning by 1/2 length. So we turn around, head back...a long way...and we both start melting our tires. I could see some wierd lights in my rearview through the smoke and almost crapped myself when I realized what was happening!! I kid you not, at least 30 cop cars coming!!

They blocked off three whole blocks, 2 helicopters, tons of biker cops, cars, paddywagons, tow trucks...etc Anyways 21 people got arrested, myself included, same number of cars, 4 motorcycles. They stopped each and everyone of the 275-300 cars there that night and searched vehicles!! My friends didn''t get home till 6am. They were lucky.

I am astounded at some of the responses here. Kid, and I feel safe using that term judging by your actions, you were clearly in violation and you know it, so stop being a little whiner, admit some responsibility and PAY THE TICKET!

what really retarted is that my principal threatened to call the cops on one of my friends from school for revving his engine, he told them that he could give them a ticket for reckless driving.
if it did happen, it would be the first time i've ever seen someone get a ticket for reckless driving while in neutral.

I was playing in the parking lot at my shop one night in a Corvette I owned before my ex-wife... cop tried the "careless driving" line, I reminded him it was private property... then he used the "disturbing the peace" line... and it was noisey... so I shut up He was nice and let me be.
