ive been looking into buying a used crotch rocket but im not doing to well in my quest. i live in the dallas fort worth area and i want something for less then 5 grand. 99-05 but anyways i dont know any sites that could help me and im not getting along with the ones ive found. so if anyone could help that would be awesome

look in the phone book for local motorsports shops. Thats where im gonna get mine. I can get like an 02 for about 4 grand.

this is usually the best idea, ive found that bike shop employees are really nice and honest people, they out of their way to help you out and i dont think the average joe would do the same. go through a dealer.

Or else if you are really cheap go to a shop that sells used/crashed bikes...just make sure you go with someone who knows a LOT about bikes, because those some shops like that will sell bikes to unsuspecting cunsumers that have little things wrong with them that turn into bigger problems in the long run. Your best bet is to go with a dealer.

Just be careful on it. I have seen far to many of my friends and the guys in my area get pumped about motorcycles (hey who wouldn't!? they are sweet!) go out and buy the new killer rocket bike and do a very good job spreading it and themselves all over the road in under 1 month...

If it's your first bike (and first real riding?) PLEASE find a responsible group and ride with them for some time. Responsible meaning they won't race you to the coffee shop across town...

Call me anything you want but I have been riding motorcycles for most of my 22 years on earth so far (about 15 years now) and I fear those crotch rockets. Oh the power is great and the ride is a blast but that is the problem... they are not made to drive at 30-65mph they are meant to be raced and that gets you in trouble.

So again, get what you want but find a nice group to ride with. You learn a lot and the group riding is in many ways more fun (and safer) than solo stuff.

the new cbr 600rr is a more street driven sport bike than most out there. Honda's are some of the best bikes for a new rider to start out on.

Not typically very comfortable, but legal.

That's good advice. It's difficult sometimes, but you have to constantly tell youself not to demonstrate the bike's speed for the sake of your ego.

Wear a good helmet (Arai, Shoei, ...), gloves, an armored motorcycle jacket, ankle-high boots, and long pants every time you get on the bike, regardless of the distance you intend to travel. It can be a hassle, but if you go down, you'll wish you had even more.

If you feel the need for some super speed, investigate a track day in your area. You can do some technique-building and, if you screw up, there's always an ambulance on station.

I know you said 600, but try searching for Suzuki SV 650. Lots of good upgrades avalible and if you make a mistake, it wont cost $1500 or more to replace all the plastic.

Is this your first bike, ie; have you shopped for good insurance yet.

I also agree that speed attempt should be kept to the track.
My attempt is to get into the 8's at 150+mph this year.

try ebaymotors...I live in the dallas/fort worth area as well. and i got my Honda cbr600f4i for a steal! $5500 to be exact, and it was local. I've only been rding for 2 months, and I am scared every time i get on it. Just don't be stupid, and you'll be ok.
