Everytime I am state side, Mexicans always talk to me in Spanish or trip when I only speak english. One even got mad at me for not responding.

i'll tell you one thing, down here in florida we need them to pick our oranges (its not a racist comment) and im serious, since they are from farther south its a proven fact that they can withstand the sun better than other people. they are cool tho, i worked in construction with some."wtf is a CKY!!??!!"

How would we be screwed if they left? Sure we would be missing a large part of our population (legal and illeagal), especially in socal, but it's not like we are truly full on dependant on them. It would mean that we would have some more hard labor jobs open up, which would be good for high school kids who need something to do after school; we would save alot of cash on border enforcment, wellfare, healthcare, car insurance, public education and so on. The problem is that California (and many other states) is to dang lazy and self-involved to do the dirty work. Its not that we NEED them to do the work, its just that we DONT WANT to do it ourselves
I wanted to see this flick, then i forgot about it. maybe ill go pick it up and have a lookComment

If they left the unemployed farmers from middle America might, just might, move to CA to take a job there.Originally posted by Target PracticeI don't know about you, but I've lived in Central California for about 20 years. With out the help of migrant workers, This state's agricultural economy, the fifth biggest in the world (IIRC, it might have changed since I was in 4-H), would grind to a halt. Like tomatos? To bad, they would rot in the fields. Onions?
Same thing. Next time your trashman comes by, look to see what ethnicity he is. In 20 years, I've ONLY had Mexican trashmen. If they left, waste management utilities would be SEVERELY understaffed, and when trash stands still, a community stands still.
Food service? Dishwashers and bussers possitions would be empty. Construction, earth works, medicine, and general service industries would be gutted.
This may sound like a racist statement, but I assure you it's not. Make no mistake (CA at least) needs Mexicans (whether they be migrant workers, illegal residents, or honest to God legals) as much as the South needed slaves.
To assume that the migrant workers will make or break us is silly.
Every single job you listed here, I am pretty sure would be gladly filled by an American citizen, who pays their taxes, yet is currently unemployed due to illegal immigrants.
Send them back over the border and let them come in the legal way.
No amnesty for illegals!Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.Comment

*winces* the south needed paid workers, slavery is a cruel and unethical way of saving money.Originally posted by Target PracticeThis may sound like a racist statement, but I assure you it's not. But why is it that the news focuses on the 'minority' poor while ignoring the million dollar rip-offs done by the 'majority' rich?Originally posted by tony3Interesting movie, yes it would basically screw us if they all left, but think, the south got over all the slaves being free. I can honestly say of all the crime in our papers on sundays, 90% of it is hispanic people from surrounding cities or the government funded apartments, which btw, is an entire sector of our cities police force monitors. Oh well, it's hard to say, some hispanics are awesome people and just want to make a good living and do well for their family, then the other few, who are the small percentage that screw it up for everyone.
MOST agriculture in North America depends on migrant workers (as does much of agriculture in other developed nations).Comment

There are several posts here that I started to quote, but you'll get the idea.
Anyone actually been inside a dairy? Started my day in one, couldn't find the guy I was supposed to meet becuase nobody spoke english. Thank god they were there, I can afford milk for my kids. Trust me, it is not a pretty job.
Seen how tomatos get to market? A packing house gets 7$ for a 20lb case of tomatoes. Any idea of what goes into producing that?
Having been an employer in California for a long time, I can guarantee you that that nobody currently getting relief in any form is going to take these jobs. And if the CA economy takes a hit, the nation is going to take a hit.
I am against illegal immigration, but we have to come to some kind of realistic solution.Comment

Man, I forgot about this thread. This is my point. Coming from where I did, and being very close with many major farming families (Gallo anyone?), I was lucky enough to be able to witness this phenomena firsthand. Migrant workers are a good thing for CA. I'm not saying that their use is right, but it sure as hell is profitable.Originally posted by SAWThe South needed workers, period. Slavery was, simply put, cheaper than paid labor.

Agree 100%. I've traveled to Mexico numerous times and they never cease to amaze me. In my experiences, their work ethic / values have been outstanding. The families I've gotten to know over the years are some of the most closely-knit groups out there.Originally posted by TDonovanI love mexicans. Not being sarcastic or anything. I also agree. Every culture has it's ups and downs. I've been speaking spanish for over 5 years, and learning the language has allowed me to examine Mexican culture, and I absolutely love it.Originally posted by TDonovanI love mexicans. I like mexicans too. As a general rule they're really nice people. I hate how americans treat them; in socal they're afraid to look you in the eye when you pass them on the street.Comment
