i work in the home construction industry and the majority of home building laborers in norcal are hispanic and they will rob you blind if given the opportunity. they are good...scratch that... the are excellent workers, just keep an eye on your stuff.

We don't have much agriculture here in NY, and what we do have is pretty much Mexican free. I have yet to see a Mexican trash man. Their are a lot of Mexican dishwasher and bussers although their are no lack of 16-18 year olds willing to take the positions the Mexicans just tend to be a little more reliable most of the time. Same thing with landscaping a lot are all Spanish but a few arn't and they get along fine.
I think here the negatives outweigh the positives big time with illigles.

Actually we don't have any Mexicans, we get ours from El Salvador.

Every outlying town in this county is farm based and in just about every other county in northern and western NY is the same way. Southern NY happens to contain the residue of NYC which eats away at any thing related to agriculture . Wash your armpits for a change.

But yeah, there isnt extreme diversity up here. Lots of Amish, menonite, and other traditional and new farms. Mexicans hate the -40 in the winter anyways. They freeze swimming to Canada .(jp nothin against mexicans )

oh yeah , i am Mexican. and to Hasty and Jpdgas.
it would be taking away a Huge percentage of the california population, its argiculturel work force . yes it would break us. and having worked with migrant workers(family friends own 60 Acres of orange groves in central cali and i go and help some times,mainly with irrigration lines ). its a low paying job and really wouldnt be filled by the unemployed because of the Social stigma involved with it. not to mention back breaking and dangerous. Because their labor is so cheap is one of the reasons produce stays at a reasonable price. not saying we embrace illigals coming voer the border, but its naive to say they arent here helping our economy in alot of ways.

Like I said, the only reason it would hurt us to lose the mexicans is because the CA population doesnt WANT to do the dirty work, even though it could handle it no problem. Its not a matter of necessity at all, people are just spoiled and take jobs for granted.

and no we couldnt handle it ...almost half of california is mexicans.
and have become an intergral part of society.
take away the cheap labor force, you either half to pay WAY more, or ship in workers from other areas. we can already get produce cheaper from many other countries. but the US subsidies (sp) farming ( not sure which kinds though). so if you raise wages, you either have to boost productivity(more labor) or rise prices ( consumers then buy from other markets). not to mention try to get any less then desprate person to work in those conditions, for those wages, with little to no job security, and no coverage.
