    New Driving age????

Does anyone know if they are officially going to up the age to 18? http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...ain-usat_x.htm
    this is such crap
"research seems to help explain why 16-year-old drivers crash at far higher rates than older teens. "
No Crap i mean obviouslly theyve had less drviving experience....
"Even some teens are acknowledging that 16-year-olds are generally not ready to face the life-threatening risks that drivers can encounter behind the wheel."
Thats crap too my neighbor just got his licsence and can drive better than many 40 year olds ive ridden with.
Personally i think parents need to regulate. If you dont want your kid out on the road then dont let them out on the road. Why do we continually make laws for things parents should be doing anyways? but i think ill get my license before they change it anyways.(if they do)

PA has already changed. I do not know the specifics of the law though. I think you can still get a junior license when you are 16, but it's limited.

There are a few laws that I have seen that I think make sense. I know 16 yo's can drive as well as an 18 yo, that is not the danger. I think that many 16 yo's are not mature enough to drive. I also think that there needs to be more laws about how many and the age of passangers in a young drivers car. I know when I was 16 and had my license, more than once did we pile more than a safe number of kids in the car and headed some place. I also know we did more horse play in a car than was safe. In my area there seems to be way too many HS kids getting killed in car wrecks, most of them due to high speeds on roads that do not allow it.

Quicktime doesn't work here, but if the video shows a car crash, it's real. The driver was killed.

Under developed impulse control is a REAL danger.

Dosn't bother me any, let them raise it. I already have my licence so it won't affect me any if they do.

I agree with Muzikman on this one. I also remember as a young driver, piling boatloads of my buddies in my POS car, all of us doing dumb stuff on the road, and generally not being as safe as we should have been.

Sure its easy for us to talk now, but I'm sure we'd have raised the same concerns you are now if faced with these limitations. Just try to realize there is a good basis for the concept behind the proposed law. Parents should be aware, but part of having a license is the independence, and what you do when you know your parents aren't watching can be unsafe.

On a slightly different note, there are a couple of replies that say you are old enough, but haven't bothered to get your license. My daughter and eldest niece are the same way. I don't really understand this. I know when I was old enough, I was super excited about the prospect of being able to drive. For those old enough to drive, but are unlicensed, is there a reason for this, other than just too lazy to deal with the DMV?
