Don't accept files through MSN messenger...

Unless they tell you exactly what it is, make sure it's a known file type, JPG, MPG, AVI etc.

I just got sent a file that was something mona lisa .pif, I thought it was PDF and opened it... expecting a photoshop file, nothing happened and I realize I had just ****ed myself.

Nifty little virus, I immediately tried to end the process and BAM it closes that right away, tried system restore and it completely removed that option from windows and won't allow it. Nothing seems to be working.

Just be careful when recieving files... time for a reformat

There's always a fix sir` blaze! go to google and search for the virus' name, and see if anything comes up. Then after that, try to run some AVG all up in it.

    Reformatting is for quitters!

Ewww, congratulations, you've got a really really nasty little bugger on your hands.

That right there will end the process, but you must manually delete it, as Norton and other virus scanners haven't figured out how to delete it yet. I'll see if I can find more information.

        Edit; http://www.pandasoftware.com/about/p...ia=6010&ver=21

That's a nice report about your virus.

Also: The names of the viruses are Kelvir.(Letter) and Fatso.(letter). Check the links to each virus for removal instructions: http://www.pandasoftware.com/virus_info/

Haha I already formatted, I had nothing on my computer anyways, I just reinstalled a few programs... reinstalling HL2 to go play.

I could have found it, but ya I decided to be lazy

Since being a friend automatically makes them totally immune to any virus.

I wasn't paying attention, I was talking to him earlier, then I randomly got a file sent, thought it said PIF so after it was finished sending I hit Execute... and bam... before I realized what I had done

It's all good now... just be careful...
