About a week ago my mom got this stabbing pain on her eyelid, later in the day it bagan to turn pinkish and swollen. Its starting to get better, but today I woke up and was fine, took a shower, then went outside and i noticed a stabbing pain in my eyelid, i thought it was an eyelash but then my upper eyelid toward the inner corner began to become swollen and discolored as well. It really sucks, its somewhat gross looking and painful, anyone knows what it could be, its nothing to do with the actuall eye, it feels like an ingrown eyelash but its weird, the doctor wasn't sure what it was so they just gave her anti-biotics. Anyone had this before or know what it is?

Pink eye is conjunctivitis, which is a general term for any infection/inflammation of the "eye tissues" (just went through this with my daughter). If it's viral it's no more contagious than a cold. Actually, the same virus as a cold can cause it, as my daughters was. If it is bacterial, then it is generally much more contagious, and needs antibiotics. So, unlike I thought just a week ago, pink eye is not always highly contagious. ;:
