    Who actually uses nitrogen?

Yea, seriously, who nowadays actually uses Nitrogen versus air? Did people ever really use Nitrogen?
Just a thought.. we call them nitro tanks, but I've never heard of anyone, even in the past, using nitro.

Apparantley compressed nitrogen is easier and cheaper to get in the USA, whereas compressed air is easier and cheaper to get here in the uk, It's basically the same thing though as Air is mainly made up of nitrogen.

How would you even know if your field used nitrogen instead of air?

If your field is using bulk canisters, I doubt you can tell the difference. If they are using a compressor, well, then its obvious

I have seen guys use nitrogen in the past, but they kicked themselves in the *** when they realized that compressed air will work just as well at a farction of the cost per fill.

It wa fun to see their faces when i filled them in on that little detail.

With the lower costs of compressors these days I am sure less and less fields are using N2. But I am sure that there are still fields in Maine that still use N2 as it's easy to get and in the short run, cheaper.

Our field uses bulk canisters and a booster. You can tell it's N2 because that's what it says on the tank sticker.

It's amasing to me that it's cheaper to buy N2 rather than compressed air but there it is.

Nitrogen is better than compressed air for electronic guns. When air is compressed, so are the water molecules. This can lead to long term solenoid damage. You can tell you are using compressed air when you see water vapor coming out of your barrel after each shot. That's the water molecules expanding in the warm air.

Why do you think they are called "Nitro Tanks" Back in the early days of HPA, N2 could be had at any local air supply store (AKA Welding supply store). Fields use to hook a few of these tanks together and could fill 3000psi. The problem is that once the bulk tanks got below 3000psi they would not fill the HPA tanks to 3000psi.

So some companies came out with boosters. WGP has one and so does Air America. These allow you to take multiple bulk tanks and even if they are below 3000 psi, boost them to fill the paintball tanks to 3000 psi.

This is back in the day when a dive should WOULD NOT fill a scuba tank for you unless you were certified to dive. Also, compressors that produced high pressure cost as much as a car.

Today, the dive shops realize that they can make money and some will enter an agreement with individuals to fill suba tanks for paintball use only. While field can now buy compressors because the prices have come down drastically.
