    Robotics Competition *56k Death*

Over the past two days my high school robotics team has been competing in the F.I.R.S.T. Mid-Atlantic Regional, and I brought my camera. We got 3rd place overall and won Best Animation. There were 53 teams competing. 2 from Brazil, 1 Puerto Rico, the rest from NJ, NY, and PA.

So why not share the pics!?

    Our turrest assembly

    Chassis

Our robot lifting the Tetra. It lifts them 11ft.

Our robot- Middle, 2nd from the left. Holding the red tetra.

Electrical System. Well part of it anyway.

    Another Chassis Shot

    Drivetrain! The pic is sideways.

Semi-Final Match. We werent in this one.

    For more pics, click here.

We had one of the most solid/well built robots there. Many other teams were using pneumatics, which was a bad choice. But this was mostly due to pneumatics being cheaper than some of the electrical equitment.

Sorry for the huge pics. I was using the wrong url from Imageshack.

Almost forgot! Thanks to our great Sponsor: John and Johnson Consumer Products Worldwide.

Thanks for all the comments. It means alot to me after everything I/we put into it.

It is expensive, extremely expensive. Estimated value of $12,000. If I included labor, well over $20,000. Our robot from 03 is worth well over $25,000. This is due to 40% of the material used was titanium.

Much of the actual metal work was done by our machinist. The boom/arm is extruded alum., the rest is billet. The white you see is Teflon or possibly delrin. The entire turret assembly spins on it. We have Fisher price motors with a custom transmission spnning the turret. The assembly rests on the teflon so it does not overstress the subframe.

Our sub frame used to be all 80/20, a very popular choice among FIRST teams. But due to the weight problems we had, we replaced it with 1 inch sqaure alum. tubing found at Lowes.
