My Father died on Sunday. I just found out today when I made an emergency return to the UK.
He was the most amazing man. Apart from the obvious there are many reasons why I wouldn't be here today, the person I am, or doing what I do if it wasn't for him. He truely was my hero and I loved him dearly.
He got his last wish, he died at home in my Mother and Sister's arms. I can't believe what they have been through.
There are several reasons for the nickname you all know me by, the main is that it is a combination of my Father's and Mother's names. Mike and Ann. It became the name of their boat (as seen below) and also reflects on a very difficult time in my life that my Father helped me through.
He taught me many things, that I would never make a perpetual motion machine
but that I should also never be stopped just because someone else thought something wasn't possible.
He let me think I could do anything and helped me get there.
He's the guy that let me use real tools at the age of 2, that had me help him and design things around the house my whole life, that told me off when I took new things apart
but gave me broken equipment for my toys
. He mentored me through my designs and ideas, helped me when he didn't necessarily believe in what I was doing, but believed in me and my convictions.
He was a rock to our family.
He was loved so much that the pain will take a very long time to go away. But the memories and influences on those who's lives he touched will last with them forever.
The pictures I want to remember him by, Dad still with his boat after my parents shipwrecked last year. He could always find an adventure and had a story to tell.

And in his dream car that I had the amazing privelege to give to him last summer.

And by my side (with my niece and nephew).

It's 4.30am in the UK, and I can't sleep and just had to share how great a man he was.
