    Private Catholic HighSchool

For highschool this upcoming year my mother really wants me to go to a private catholic school. Shes gone so far as to say shed buy me a new car or buy me a fully decked out g5 powermac w/ like the 8gigs or ram and the dual 2.5ghz g5 processor and all and an Ipod mini.... and well i dont have that many friends right now but the ones i have are good friends and i like them alot. My highschool is one of the best public schools in Georgia i'd say, so education wouldnt differ much ( or i think so at least). But im really unsure and my friends all tell me not to go to a private school but you know how friends are...im really unsure of what to do any advice? thanks Edit: http://www.aquinashigh.org/ thats the school it would be...

Coming from a private school...I really like teh environment that I was in at private school...it wasn't catholic, but I really like it.

Certainly whre i am there was a huge difference between public and private.

I'd say take it if your parents are willing to give it to you (the school--not the car)

I vote for private school every time. We have a pretty decent public education system here in Jersey, but I KNOW I got a much better education going to private school than my friends got who went to public school.

I had lots of friends in high school who didn't go to school with me, it doesnt matter. You see them after school and on weekends. And when you are going on to college and you get accepted easily and they are having more trouble, you'll realize what the difference was.

private, I went from a private to a public system and there is a big difference even if you go to a high ranked public school. It's all about the dicipline in each environment, private schools tend to enforce a lot more (even though the enforcement can be unreasonable). The only problem with going to a catholic high school is the insane amount of community service required and required religion/philosophy credits that are extreme wastes of time (except for philosophy class, but that's usually not available until after you take the basic religion classes)

                .

I would have to say go with the public school...It offers a whole lot more in regards to education and electives, as opposed to private schools that rely on your tuition to pay for new classes or whatever...Public school offers so much more for learning, and i would have to disagree that there isnt much of a difference between public and private schools that deals with student behavior. In a private school, there are just a lesser amount of students, but they are still kids! there is still going to be problems no matter where you go regarding discipline, so bottom line; public school.

how can public schools offer the same eudcation, from a class size of 30 to a class size of 15 at the largest, i mean wiht a 30 person class a kid jsut cant get attentiont aht they can in a small class. I could go on an on but dont feel like typing right now.

It's not as bad as you it seems like it can be.
I went all four years at a Private Catholic (Jesuit) HS. I absolutely hated being there (long story) but I did have a fun time.
Yea, I needed the bribe thing to to go. Bribes work well to pry you away from all your freinds, the town you know, and make you drive 45 minutes to the unknown everday.

And that always looks good when you're applying for colleges.

I'd say less than 20% actually were religious here. Everyone just went for the education.

I went to a Catholic School for 10 years, and I know I got a better education then the public school system. I vote private.

I chose to go to a private highschool. I'm still there and I love it. I'm not even religious either.
We also have one of the best public highschools in NY state. I'm getting a better education than they can ever dream of though. The staff and faculty are so much more attentive to you and your needs. The opportunites that it opens up to me now are immense. For instance, my goal is to either go to the Naval Academy or to go to a regular college on NROTC. My chances of getting into both are so much better because I go to a private college prep school. Not only do the colleges recognize the name, but you are also prepared better to succeed in college.
I use to go to public. If I were still there, I have no doubt that my dreams and goals that I have right now would never be accomplished.
But do make your own decision. You have to decide what's right for you. That is what's most important, what will help you best to succeed.

Also realize this. Catholic school won't make you into a pansy or something. I go to an all guys school and we're crazier than the public guys. We have plenty of fun. Plus, the girls dig us more than the guys they go to school with. We're like very interesting to them I guess lol. We have a lot more class though. We're much more mature than the public guys. Our humor and everything is a lot more sophisticated. Aw hell, I'll say it... we are better!
