When I was starting middle school my dad wanted me to go to a private school but there was no way in hell I was going to go to a private school. If you're actually thinking about it, then you should probobly go. I'm sure you'll get a better education there.

There are a few reasons why I didn't want to go. One being that to say I'm not religious would be an understatement. Another being public schools give you alot more freedom. Plus I'd been going to school with for the most part, the same kids since elementary made it easy to decide.

for the record, i went to a private boys boarding school, and while i hated the people there, and some of the schools inner politics, i really enjoyed my time there, and i got an excelent education. Im currently attending Kansas State University, flying airplanes. i think that says alot.

Private eductaions are better. there is less to distract you, and you will learn more. sure, you may have a uniform, or more strict rules, but you need to get over that crap, and realize what really matters. your education.

Seriously man, it's completely 100% your own choice. That being said:

If you like the private school and could see yourself enjoying it next year, go for it. If you are just doing it for the comp, don't, because then you will be bitter all year and won't learn anything. I've gone to a public school all my life (there are no private high schools in rural Minnesota), and have loved it. You meet a lot of different people, yadda yadda yadda (I'm sure you know, since you've also gone to public schools for awhile). You've done the whole public school thing, so maybe it is time to move on to something more serious. There is really no debate when it comes to the issue of private schools preparing you more for college, it's practically a fact. If I were in your shoes I'd jump at the chance. From the way it sounds, your family is pretty wealthy, so money probably isn't a factor.

Here's another idea: First 2 years public, last 2 years private. I don't know if this is even an option for you, but it could be a nice mix of the two, since the first 2 years of high school are pretty useless anyways (other than providing the pre-requisites for future, harder classes).

I'm currently a junior at a Jesuit high school. I have never attended a public school, but there are plenty of people at my high school who have. I have noticed that those who attended a public grade school generally do much worse in school than those who attended a catholic grade school. Would it be unfair to assume that this trend would continue in college? My school's AP Art History course provides 20% of the students who take the AP Art History test. 70 out of 72 passed, more than 60% getting a four or five on the test. I think this is a good example of how well a private school can teach you. If your worried about the fact that it is Catholic and you are not religious, dont; there are Jewish kids who attend my school. There are no service requirements at my school, but most people participate in service programs anyways.

Here's an interesting story: My mother's boss was always shocked that she spent so much money to send my brother and me to a private school when she is already spending so much tax money on education. His son was doing very well in a good public high school, receiving a math scholarship to a college. Now his son is having serious troubles with math in college, and nearly flunked out. My mother's boss is currently hiring a tutor for his son in college and is very upset because he though his son got a much better education than it appears.

The kids at my school are by no means sissies, don't worry about that. What you should think about is your education, the purpose of high school. It will not be hard to meet new people (many kids at my school are the only ones to come from their gradeschool), and you can still keep in touch with your old friends. This is a big decision, spend a lot of time thinking about it.

I went to a private Lutheran school for several years of my education. When it came time to decide between a public and private high school I chose a public.

                The differences I think
You can get a good education in public school, the teachers everyone hates because there so hard - those are the teachers you want. Insist on honors courses whenever available, and get to know the teachers. You will be pushed but you will learn. It just seems that private schools push everyone. I would put the top students in public schools agains the top students in private schools and I think you would find that the top 5% of each are very comparable. The being said - the other 95% are not - you need to work to get the best education you can in any school.

You will get to know a larger cross section of people in a public school, and I think this is very very important later in life. If you are planning on getting an education and moving.. less so. I don't know, it depends how social you are, but I think a public school gives you a far better "life experience" than what the private schools can offer because of that cross section.

All in all, it depends on your goals. Either school can give you a very good education really.

So much depends on what your goals are after you get out of high school. If you wish to further your education ni the tech feild, or in athletics I would say go with Public. Nothing at a private school can beat the technology capabilities that the public school systems provide. Public schools also seem to have a better athletics and social cl ub programs If you are going to further your education in the Arts or Acedemic fields I say go with private school. It is a known fact that children in private schools score relativley higher on acievment tests. Attending a private school also looks better on college applications and job resume's.

I attended a very large public school untill my jr year in high school then i went private. I am glad i recieved the education that I did and decided to send my children to private. For elementary students the small class size and advanced ciriclum is profitable. I figure when they are at the jr high age they can decide where they want to go.

good luck making your decisions, I am sure your parents simply want you to recieve the best education possible.

You're in 8th grade and you can't even write a coherent post? Maybe you're not ready for a private school.

Also, your parents suck. They are bribing you to get them to do what they want. It's NOT 100% your choice. If they really want you to go to a private school, you WILL go to a private school. Your parents are wussies (I'd call them what I really think, but you don't need to see a bunch of *s).

Though I really don't like private schools (12 years in them does that to you), with those bribes I wouldn't even give it a second thought. Hell, act like you don't want to go and then accept the G5 offer.

That way you get a decent education, some discipline, and a brand spanking new G5 with all those goodies.

If you can't do that, then do whatever the hell you want. Its your choice. You have to shadow and see if its really an environment you can handle.

I'd take a car over a stupid G5. Who cares how much a computer is worth you don't need that crap and it will be out-dated in maybe 2-3 years. A new car will last a LONG time. Taking a computer over a car is like taking a slurpee over a blowjob.

I went to both. The only difference between public schools and private school -assuming your public school isn't flat out retarded- is the amount of money people can throw around. It's pompous and just wrong to assume that your private school education got you that much more. To put it all in perspective: Even at the flushest colleges, you had better bet that you're going to have 200+ person lectures. Ya'll better get used to learning without all the touchy-feely personal attention that "smaller classes" give you.

Private schools leave out the perpective and world view you get from a public school of any size. I'm also fairly confident in saying that most private schools have HIGHER rates of drug use and lower interpersonal standards than their public counterparts.

Go to public school, shame your parents for their pathetic attempt to bribe you, and get yourself a 4.0. Then you'll get into any school you want anyways. High School is about getting into college. Don't think it's about anything else. Despite all the distractions, the drinking, the sports and the clubs, your teenage angst and learning to deal with the world, it's about getting into college.
