    Pet Squirrels

Am I the only one who think it would be awsome to have a pet squirrel? I was thinking about catching one then like making a huge playground for it, and keeping it in my room or something.
The hardest part would be catching it though, then I'd hae to takle the process of a place to keep it. I'd want to to have plenty of room to run around, and things to climb.

    But seriously, squirrels rock.

Am I crazy? Or has anyone else thought I'd be neat to have one as a pet.

We have a couple stuffed Fox Squirrels I shot in SC... Do they count?

Some people down the road caught a couple baby squirrles a long time ago and had them live on their patio iirc. They hung around and ate and stuff, but you just can't domsesticate something like a squirrel.

As I understand it pet squirrels don't live long and are very destructive.

Now of you want to catch one and barbeque him or make some stew LMK........

      umm good

Indeed, sweet it would be. I don't know if its possible, but I've definitely thought about it too. There would probably be a creative way to play some tricks on people using one too. I remember thinking this when I was a little kid at the zoo. I had some peanuts and the squirrels at the zoo would came right up to my foot and would stand up and look at the peanuts. They seemed friendly enough and you could hand feed them!

pet squirrels are cool, i had one for a short while, until it died. they are very hard to keep and keep alive. We tried raising this one as a baby, but were unsuccessful. also there is the possibility of rabies. it isnt a smart idea to raise a squirrel sorry man

I've heard that it is actually very hard for squirrels to get rabies, because they would have to survive being bitten by another animal with rabies. Since they usually would die should such an event occur, it is actually unlikely to come across a squirrel with rabies.

I dont know if anyone else reads the bathroom readers books, but I think it says Squirrels cant carry rabies. Not sure if this is right though.

when I was a kid there was a squirrel by my house that you could hand feed. It would sit on your lap and eat whatever you had for it.
                It was cool as hell
but then it got hit by a car

I hit four squirrels in one day once. Ok, so I tried to hit the first two, but the last two were complete luck.

my ex girlfriend had a pet squirrel when she was eleven or twelve. it bit and attacked everything it could get near. she ended up giving to the neighbor kid and it crawled down his pants and...well...ouch. i dont think it lived too much longer after that.

They sell them as pets in Japan, along with prairie dogs and chipmunks. I didn't see anyone with a squirrel, but I did meet someone with a chipmunk--that was cool! That little thing couldn't stay still! He was good though. If you get one as a baby and handle it a lot, then I don't see why you couldn't have one as a pet. It wouldn't be much different than a gerbil or a guinea pig.
Just get a chinchilla. They are squirrel-like and very friendly. They are goofy looking, but in a cute way. Plus, not that many people have them or know what they are.

I have a pet squirrel, well sort of. Our house is infested with rodents. I usually wake up every morning to a squirrel running around my room. I try to get him with the bb gun, but he's so quick. I chase him outside but there are so many other houses around me that I can't really get any shots at him.

This squirrel is jacked too. He ate my multivitamins once. He started to chew through the bottle, then just unscrewed the lid. I think that's what made him strong. He's figured out how to open a refridgerator. He even opened it with a 35lb weight leaning on the door. I hate him. I try to kill every squirrel I see around my house but they keep coming.

Well you definatly need a baby first off, you won't domesticate an adult in the least not that many people have success with babies anyway.
Someone I met had a racoon once, that thing was cool but I heard that they get nasty once they're a couple years old.
