Smoking ban in Minneapolis going into effect March 31, 2005

I won't have to worry about inhaling 2nd hand smoke or stinking of cigarettes anymore.

My friends who are smokers don't like the ban, and have gone as far as saying tha they'll drink outside of the county, yet when they smoke at home, they go outside.

    No more smoke!

Smokers = lose... my brother is 18 and smokes... Wish he would stop, everytime I bring it up he just ignores it.

Boston and Providence are the same way. It's so funny seeing all the smokers freezing in the dead of winter outside of bars

See, thing is, if someone wants to smoke, that's their business. If you don't want to be subjected to it, that's your business. If that means not going to a bar where smoking is allowed, that's your business.

Yeah, it's like that by me. I'm glad, I hate going to smoke filled bars. I start coughing and I stink.

Kinda off topic, but about smoking. I just want to rant about those stupid truth commercials. They tick me off and I don't even smoke. They just bash cigarette companies. They should be bashing the people who are smoking! You'd have to be pretty dumb to not know that smoking is addicting, and that it's horrible for you. Yet people start smoking anyway. Aside from old timers who got addicted before all this stuff was common knowledge, there is no excuse to smoke. It's a perfect example of natural selection (or is it darwinism? I don't know. I'm an EE major). You can't blame the cigarette companies, despite how cool a smoking camel may be. That's like blaming a company who makes kitchen knives when someone gets stabbed. Man, now I've gotten myself all riled up before bed. Stupid smoking. /rant

The companies sell poison. Screw 'em.

While I HATE smoking, I think the right to smoke should be protected. If we let the government dictate how we live our lives (in example, telling us what we can and cannot do), we loose the precious freedoms that thousands of Americans have died for over the years. If the governments starts banning smoking, who's to say where they will stop!? They could eventually say things like the music we love and even paintball are harmful to society and ban them! We have to stop the government from dictating how we live our lives, and if we don't, there is no telling where they will stop.

Again, I absolutely HATE smoking. It is harmful to the body and serves no purpose. I just think it is important that we should have the right to do what we want with out bodies.

I agree. But shouldn't a compramise be made? It is unfair to just make one group of people happy. There are things that can be done to make both sides equally happy. I live in California where smoking inside is illegal and I LOVE it, but at the Jr. college I go to you can smoke outside as long as its away from the walking path of people. Seems reasonable to me. They get to smoke and I never have to be harmed by it.

thats the way it is here.. cept all the smokers stand on the side of the doorway so you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get inside, which is as bad if not worse then them smoking inside....
