creatinine levels can be measured through a blood test. creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine. creatinine levels can be used as a screening test to evaluate kidney function and other stuff.

I never took creatine suppliments, although I know teamates on the football team who did.

first of all creatine isnt illegal in anything at all, olympics, NCAA, anything, so I dont know what your friend is worrying about.

And no it wont show up on a drug test. Most likely your friend doesnt have that much creatine in his system anyway unless he knows how to take it. Your body produces creatine anyways. They wont test his creatine levels in a piss test I promise. Although if some wierdo at a test lab wanted to know whether or not he was using it, he could probably test creatine levels and make an educated guess. Not something to worry about though.

          Actually,
There is a piss-test done for creatine, but it isn't looking for Creatine. I will explain. (I'm an ex-wrestler/current coach). Creatine builds up in the kidneys unless you are taking a LOT of water with it. A doctor will normally give you a piss test if he knows you are using this to make sure he doesn't see unhealthy levels in your urine. I had a friend who wasn't drinking enough water and had some pretty serious problems and was lucky the doctor saw the signs in a piss test. If you are using this product I can't urge you enough to drink lots and lots of water to keep your kidneys flushed. A couple years ago there were at least 2 or 3 wrestlers nationwide who died because of a creatine buildup in their kidneys. It turns out they were dieting and not drinking hardly any water to make the weightclass they wanted. I know it is pretty serious if you don't drink lots and lots of water. I'm not sure if it is illegal on the high school level, but I know we don't allow our kids to use it. We actually did some research and studies and there isn't a huge gain associated with creatine as it was originally hyped. It does cause water to be stored in your muscles making them have a fuller look, but as far as strength was concerned, nothing worked better at building strength than protein bars. Anyways, please be careful if you are taking this, please drink extra water.

whether or not those kids died from creatine is debatable. Creatine can dehydrate you without proper water intake. So I think they died of dehydration, which is directly related to the creatine, but not the creatine itself. The point is just drink a lot of water.

normal piss tests are not concerned with creatine. my friend who went to west point had a test show that he had high levels of creatine but that is west point for you(funny enough he didn't take creatine his body just naturally produces high levels of the chemical). that is all i have to say as to the actual topic of this thread. on another note i have taken creatine because i was a wrestler/football player in high school and yes you do need to drink as much water as you can possibly choke down. after a few weeks i started to develope twitches and cramps in my muscles due to dehydration. drinking 1 1/2 gallons of water a day fixed that. a friend of mine went to the hospital because of creatine induced dehydration during a football practice. by the way creatine doesn't build muscle it is for energy so protien and energy bars/shakes build muscles much faster and don't require as much water. good luck and be safe with supplements.

I believe it was somewhere around 1997-1998 and a few college wrestlers died in a short span. One of them was a heart condition if I remember correctly, and the other 2 died of dehydration/heat exhaustion. I know that both had been believed to be on creatine and I know that since then there have been arguements that it wasn't creatine that caused it or that they had already stopped using it or something. I do know of one local wrestler having to go to the hospital for severe dehydration as a resul of creatine use, and one of our wrestlers during a checkup the doctor saw something in his piss test, and it was a result of a buildup of creatine in his system. I am not saying the stuff is a killer, as I have used it myself, just to make sure you are drinking a lot of water at the same time.

Seriously, if you are going to use any supplement, just remember to "USE AS DIRECTED"...

Idiot people not reading directions, abusing supplements, and suffering the consequences is how Ephedra supplements got banned

When I used to cycle creatine I drank at least a gallon of water a day, wich is actually pretty easy and thats why I still do it. I just fill up a milk gallon jug in the morning and drain it the rest of the day. I just really like water I guess!

I take creatine in the nasty powder orange twist flavor. I dont think it would show up on a piss test, but I dont need to worry about it. Besides creatine is 100% legal.
