    Weight Gain/Muscle Building Supplements

Hey all, i have just been wondering about any particular substance that helps out with the building of muscle mass from anyone here that works out for sports or what not...If you find that something works, please inform me, thanks.
(p.s.- yes i am going to a fitness store to get an "expert" opinion, but this is just for a first, basic opinion)

I think the majority of the muscle building stuff on the market is useless. A lot of the stuff you pay money for in pill form can be easily acquired through a healthy diet. So save yourself some change, eat right and exercise correctly.

Cellmass and NO-Explode are probably the two best supplements out right now as far as gaining muscle wieght. Both combined worked really well, they are made by the same company. They are both $38-45 ea.

Ah I always get sucked into these threads. Ive been lifting and training for years now, most of the time I was trying to gain a lot of muscle mass. Right now im STILL trying to gain muscle mass and size and I weigh 245...but thats all the way up from 165 4 years ago when I was a freshman. Ive spent thousands in supplements and I can tell you they dont really work that well. Some things will help you a little though.

Creatine will help you retain water so you will jump a quick 5-10 pounds and then lose it when your cycle is over.

NO2 will pump your muscles up like youve been lifting all day long if you take enough of it. But this goes away too when your bottle runs out.

Glutamine will help you with muscle recovery if taken correctly but its really only noticable to someone whos been lifting years and knows how long it takes there body to recover.

Theres only 3 main things that will really help you gain muscle mass and size.

        1. Diet- I put it first because it is the most important. Without tons and tons of food your muscles will not grow. Its that simple. You need to eat at least 6 average sized meals a day. You need 1-2 grams of protein at least for every pound of body weight, EVERY day. You also need mass carbs. To get enough protein and carbs ide recomend protein/carb shakes. They sell shakes full of protein with no carbs, and they sell them full of carbs with no protein. You need both. I make my own shakes which are stacked with protein/carbs/ and sometimes glutamine. The brands are "Lean Complex" for the protein and "Universal carbs plus" or something like that for the carbs. You should eat meals first and then drink the shakes after so you dont get too full to eat. You will seriously need to eat and eat and eat and stretch your stomach out to gain weight. This is the hardest part. Eat when your full and you dont feel like eating. I call this bulking. This is the diet you need to gain muscle, but you will also gain a little extra fat too, it varies from person to person, I dont gain much fat at all due to metabolism. If your naturally skinny you shouldnt have a problem. After your as big as you want to be you can always go back and "cut", or eat less, workout the same, and add a lot of cardio.

        2. Training- Work out hard. Ill assume you know how to work out. Dont do sets higher than 10 reps ever though if your looking to bulk up. Sets of 8-10 are pretty standard. Try to get in the gym as much as you can and just commit to it.

        3. sleep- constantly overlooked. Your body needs sleep to heal and grow. Remember, your not getting bigger while you lift, your actually getting smaller. You get bigger while your not in the gym and your resting and your body is healing. So get your 8 hours of sleep or whatever and you'll be fine.

I cant stress enough though how much your calorie intake is so much more important than anything else when someone is trying to get bigger. Supplements wont be worth the money in my opinion except for protein, and carbs if you have the cash, but its easy to get enough carbs throughout the day with bread and stuff. Just go to your store and ask the guy for top of the line protein. They are always comming out with new stuff that stays in your system longer. If you let him talk you into any other supplement, glutamine is what I would recomend. Get something that tastes good too because you'll need to take it 2-3 times a day.

lol thanks for the info guys, yeah the guys on the football team are CONSTANTLY drinking water due to the creatine that they take, carrying those gallon jugs around...funny and pointless actually, but then again one of these kids is jacked up and drinks alot of water, so i dont know what it is...but anyways was just a question to hear some opinions from people that have gone through the motions and what not....i dont weigh much due to my metabolism, and i eat EVERYTHING!! sweets, cakes, alot of fatty things (which i have cut down on, too greasy) healthy food, steak, meat etc.. havent gained any weight, and i worked out freshman year, yet no results so i stopped wasting money after about 5 months...ok any more advice is welcomed.

I took this stuff in HS called Muscle Milk. Its just like a protien shake and it had a little bit of creatine in it. With lifting and eating right over one summer i gained a noticable amount of weight, just about all of it muscle.

I've been training for 8 years and work in gyms and used to work in a suplement store, Don't waste your money on sport suplements except for: #1 Protien. I suggest two types of protien made by Cyto sport. Cytogainer is the mass builder. Suggest once mabe twice a day, but don't use them as meal repalcements, they are not meant for that even though most people do. Also directions say to use 4 scoops, it's like eating pudding that way. In my opinion 3 scoops tops and it's a little easier on the tummy. The second protien I would purchase is MuscleMilk, made by the same company. Take this protien a half hour before bed. The reason being, it is a casien protien which is a little more difficult for our bodies to digest. And that means the protien is spread out through the night instead of being bombarded at once like with a regular whey protien. #2 amino acids. Glutimine is good but it is only one of many aminos. I would go with a product made by MRM called BCAA (Branch Chain Amino Acids). This products contains the aminos nessesary to building muscle. Creatine is good for recovery time and gain a little strengh, also hold a little water. But fades quickly when you come off. I would only use creatine to get over a hump. Any questions let me know.

I dont know why everyone preaches muscle milk so much.(Not just around here) In my experiences muscle milk adds fatty muscle and not lean muscle. It always made one of my friends look all bloated and swollen kind of like a cell-tech look too. I dont know I think Muscle Milk used to be the best but there seems to be better out there now.

Wicked, ya that's strange that it had that effect on you, but I use it only once a day at night. And like I said the only reason I use it cause it is a casien protien. Their are a couple other brands that use casien protien as an ingrediant, this one just happens to taste the best to me. I don't know your diet, but it could have just been the wrong combo for you. Not everything works for everyone. It just happens it works for me. Takes along time to figure it out. I know this, most supplements out there are bunk.
