I am just built a custom computer its got 512 memory and its not bad everything is pretty top notch but i bought a ATI RADEON card off a guy who said it was top notch.Turns out its a 7000 series and all my games run really slow and choppy. So i need a new card thats really good but not so expensive. Anybodys suggestions would be great!

I recently bought a ATI Radeon 9600 XT and love it, for ~$160 it is a steal. I run World of Warcraft at full resolution wiith all setting maxed out, and get 40 fps average, HL2 and CS:S never drop very far below 30 fps in high action areas. I had a nVidia 5900 XT before the ATI and it had too many problems, so i sent it back and got the ATI, i've had two nvidias and they both were crap. I'm sticking with ATI from now on, also the radeon gets just as good of performance as the nvidia did, for about $30 less.
My Specs :
AMD Athlon XP 2500 (oc'ed to 3200+)
768mb DDR-400 Kingston ram
2x 80gb Western Digital SATA Drives Raid array 0
ATI Radeon 9600 XT Catalyst 5.2
built in AC'97 audio crap
Sony DVD-RW
LG CD-RW
Windows XP Homo Edition (micro$oft - why sell one operating system when we can charge for another one just for a few diffferent features?)

i recomend the radeon 9800pro, great value, and it is a pretty nice card, unless your wanting superhigh graphics on all games ever made, then ur gonna easily spend 400+ on a graphix card.... you should look for a 256bit card at at least 128meg recomended, its not so much the ram on the card as the cards ability to process information, but by no means would a 256meg 256bit card suck, its just more mulaComment

wow guys, get out of the stone age.
If you want a mid level ATI go for the X700 series, if you really want good fast gaming where you wont have to upgrade in three months for new games coming out go into the X800 series
For Geforce go with the 6600 series or for top notch go wtih the 6800 series.
Um sorry about this but by the sounds of it i doubt your computer is top notch. Post a full spec.
Sicne you were able to buy and install a 7000 series video card you have an AGP video slot which is now out dated and wont be made any more. The new interface is PCI-Express 16X which the above cards are. If you want the old generation cards to fit your AGP I would go with Radeon 9800 XT you should be able to pick it up for around 250-300, if you dont want to spend that much try to stay in the 9800 family anyways. I dont know Geforce enough to tell you a comparable Geforce card. They do make AGP cards for the X series for ATI but they are nothing compared to the PCI-E 16X cards. If you do stick with your current set up, chances are is it wont be future proof (once again, post a spec it would help alot) and it will be obsolete in 6 months.
My current comp is getting outdated and it was pretty kick *** back in the day when i built it.
P4 3.2
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP 875P chipset
2X Western Digital Drives 80 gigs each raid 0 (i would reconomend a raid 0 setup very much because your hard drives are THE slowest part of your computer)
Radeon 9800XT
2X .5 gig each ABIT DDR400 dual channel
Audigy 2 ZS
