I am rather curious, when was the last time Peurto Ricans were the first to be drafted?

Or when have they ever been drafted for that matter?

And I honestly think that if PR gained its independence, as soon as some idiot messed it up America would get blaimed for somehow not giving independence properly.

As opposed to the ignorant egocentric spite you're spewing?

I have to agree that people probably wouldn't care about Taiwan untill there was a massacre a la Tienanmen Square-- no one's willing to step up and stand up for them thus far in gaining independence. Actually, no one has really cared enough to do anything with them.

Nor did he say enough for you to call him ignorant. Just because he's not American and doesn't see eye to eye with you, he's ignorant. That, to me, is egocentric spite.

You can say as you wish as well, but expect people like me to jump in when your arrogance shows. And I don't mean this as a personal attack, really... I don't know you, and I don't know whether oyur response was meant to be racist or not.

Puerto Rico can go as far as I am concerned. Your "colony" is a drain onour country. You get far more federal $ then you generate.
Puerto Rico, should it have wanted to be a state and absorb more $$ from the federal government, had it's chance. Three times. In the 70's, 80's, and 1993 (I think) PR voted to remain a commonwealth until its economy could support itself.

You know what's a drain to this country? The War in Iraq. An inflated budget. All "drains." PR, while it does not contribute back as much as it takes directly, provides business locations as well as workers.

And US politics now gets dragged into a discussion over China vs Japan???

Amazing how a topic can wander.

Fishy, I think he was refering to the statement being ignorant spite not the person himself.

And if you look at his post it was rather inflammitory and most of it I bet was based on speculation.

The only three times I can think of that the Puerto Ricans would have been drafted at all would have been WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. But there is no proof given that the Puerto Rican army went first, other than a statement that basically states America is prejudiced against them and uses them as expendable troops. And say what you will, WWII was your problem.

Puerto Rico has been under US control since 1917. Once in the late 60s and twice in the 90s they chose to stay a commonwealth. Not a colony. A commonwealth. Guess what? Officially Virginia is also a commonwealth, and so is Kentucky. I guess they must be colonies as well. Also, a commonwealth is defined as a republic, as in the people have control. A colony is ruled by or closely associated to a foreign power.

Doesn't want US citizenship but still lives in a US territory, in a country that chose that status for itself 3 times... But he doesn't leave despite his dislike of US citizenship, heck he could move to Australia and not have to deal with it, and apparently the citizenship isn't his... Guess what, by living in Puerto Rico you are officially a citizen of Puerto Rico. You may be a US citizen as well but you are allowed to have more than 1 citizenship.

"if we raid a fireworks stand our militay will be equevelant to chinas" - the action figure

                  two words: Sunburn Missile.

                  look it up.

quite an amazing little toy really.

the overwhelming majority of America's conventional military might lies in it's carriers. i believe we currently have 12.

china has been acquiring and testing the "sunburn missile" basically a portable think "several on a PT boat portible" thermonuclear missile that is capable of flying close enough to the surface of the water on a zig zag flight path that it can strike and decimate a carrier group before it can be detected and accurately fired upon. sounds fun right. it gets better. as of late 2004 thay had at least 12. i'd love to be able to remember the book i was reading that in.

just some fun trivia for you.

as far as a world war between japan/USA and China?

china won't do it. neither will japan. if things keep going on the course that they are on now then outsourcing will gut america and china will step up as the new big bad on the block.

and as for the insane on the streets... i believe that the government has no responsability when it comes to providing for you. you provide for youself. i believe that the government that governs best governs least. in other words, i don't want the government telling me how, when, what, who, where. the government is there to protect my rights and to keep me safe from invading armies and criminals, anything else is my problem.

Im talking about the truly mentally handicapped man, people that used to be in asylums untill they were shut down.

Not exactly "fare for yourself" capable individuals if you know what i mean.

Nobody really stood up after Tienanmen Square, either. Just some economic sanctions, and an arms embargo from the EU.
