Converting A Automatic To A Manual

I purchased my car about 2 months ago(dodge neon sxt), wanted a stick, but my dad made me get automatic. My mom has no problem with me having a stick, but my dad does because he dosent like driving them(he never will drive my car, he has his own). My question is, how much do you guys thing it would cost to convert my car to a stick?

Expensive... you will have to change the flywheel, transaxle, possibly mounts, possibly axles... very likely the body and engine control module as well. You might look into tuner sights and see if it is possible to install a "paddle" shifter or some such in it, don't know.

FWD sucks to do tranny work on, you're better off selling it and buying a manual.
I bought the entire conversion for my camaro, $250. That's everything I would need to put it in down the the last bolt plus some random extra parts he threw in. If I do put it in the tranny is being rebuilt $260, getting a new clutch $200, and all new grade 8 hardware. I figure on it taking the better part of a weekend. Normally I wouldn't consider doing that but the automatic is on it's way out and the flexplate is show so it's actually cheaper for me to put this in now then to pay someone to rebuild the auto for me.

Aren't they made to make it harder for the engine to change output quickly?

Automatics, technically have flexplates - they are lighter than a flywheel in general. Granted, 99% of the time they are referred to as flywheels, but they are different (most of the time) than the flywheel in the same car with a manual transmission.

When a car is built, it is designed around certain criteria. One of those is what type of tranny it has. I know for a fact that the way the engine is balanced depends on the type of transmission it has in it. Im not saying it cant be done, but you'd be better off buying a new car

ive done a swap like that a couple times and its no fun and can cost up to about $1500 in my experience. You dont have to worry about "balancing" and those other things but if your goign to do it your best bet is to find a wrecked manual same care and start swapping fromt here. Tranny, clutch assembly, pedals and possibly computer controler. Thats the start to the headache your in for. Honestly i wont do it again, if the problem arises Ill buy a different car

Ok, My question......If you weren't allowed to buy a standard in the first place why are you now allowed to go through all the trouble of converting it, I mean taking a 2 month old transmission out of a car and spending money on a new one seems kinda simple to me when purchasing a car with a standard is infact cheaper than an automatic. I say suck it up and wait till you get to pick your own car before replacing a perfectly good transmission.

Hey leave my transmissions conversions out of this....mine wont be that difficult and I have the tranny to do it and the pedal set up as well. But, I got a manual car...So I can possibly be happy with a automatic truck
