    Security system for backyard

Ok this is it. Im sick of getting all of our crap stolen out of our backyard. Ive used motion detector lights, lights that never go off, locks on the side gate, I put a concrete block behind the gate so they would have trouble opening it, everything. Im not being racist but all the mexicans from the apartments across the street steel crap from us all the time. Not just us either, my whole block. They even stole my neighbors dog that he left outside as a watchdog. Its been getting bad lately. Ive sat up till 5am, left a bat by the door, I even fell asleep in the backyard last weekend because I was waiting out there so long.

The most taunting part of it is, my window is RIGHT OVER THE SIDE GATE. Like I could spit out my window on the intruders head as they walk in. But the problem is I sleep like a rock and will sleep through almost anything. But if I get ahold of these guys once they will never come near my house again. This is what I need, some sort of alarm system that will go off silently outside but will wake me up in my room. If I get a beep or something in my room that would be ideal. If I go out my window and jump one story down im right outside my backyard and I have them stuck. My backyard walls are pretty high but climbable. I dont know im possitive I could run these guys down and have my way with them but the problem is catching them in the act.

Does anyone know of any sort of like sensor/ detector setup that I could hookup to something in my room to wake me up? I have 2 dogs but only one of them is mean and they are both too small to be really threatening. Im moving out of my parents house in like 3 months but before I leave I want to put an end to all of this weve lost hundreds of dollars worth of crap.

So again ill ask, im really open on this, ANYTHING that will wake me up. If its simple ill rig it up myself but im not good at electronics at all really. Anyone? Any ideas? Im really looking for some sort of sensor like lazer beam or something they could trip that I could hook up to mayb an alarm clock in my room. But I dont know anything about electronics or if thats even reasonable. thanks.

I saw these things they use for businesses in a magazine. What it was made for is if you have a customer and the walk or drive in a car by this machine (must use break beam something) it sends a beep to a a speaker you have in your shop let me hunt for a link or something. But I wonder if it is just for a path or driveway.

Well there you go I hope this helps. They may be pricy but if you say your losing hundreds of dollars I guess they are worth every penny.

          3 words poision pungee sticks.

Just lock the gate so they have to jump it and have a pitt on the other side covered up so when they fall they fall through the cover and land on the sharpened sticks.

Hey my name is ryan also/

You could rig something up very easily. It just takes a little bit of electronics knowledge. Unfortunately, you said you don't have that. You say that your pretty close to the gate. That means you could rig up a little switch on there and run some wires to your room pretty easily. You just need to have a buzzer so it makes noise when the switch is flipped. You could probably do something like this for about 10 or 15 bucks.

It's definetly reasonable to make a cheap detection system. I'll try to help you out but it's late now and I'm really busy with schoolwork. I'll try to find a simple circuit for you tomorrow.

Or you could just get a couple bear traps. Or dig a pit in your lawn and put spikes in it. Or start robbing the mexicans.

*edit - Here are a few links:

This is a little project for children, but it might work for ya. You need a battery, a buzzer and some sort of switch. If you just rig it up so the gate closes a switch somehow, then you're all set.

There are some more circuits here, but they're probably to complicated for you.

I am thinking of installing a few of them in my frat house for the summer though. It's pretty easy to break in here.

I saw advertised on tv the other day system just like what p8ntball365 describes, it was made by First Alert.. It's a beam break system that sends some sort of audio alert to a reciever inside via radio signal. Or you could just call the cops.

I feel for you man, Having been through the exact same circumstances. 3 words...electrified barbedwire fence....yes, just like a barnyard fence system. raise the wire above the fence just you see in a prison yard or tuck it down a little below the top of the fence line. Use the yellow ribbon type wire.

Rig up a system that blares the Barney song or similar annoying crap to scare em off.

Or just leave the gay Teletubbie in your yard, I know that's scare me away.
