M friend got a Jeep a month or two ago and we found some nearby places to go off-roading/muddin'. We went out to a new place today and after almost getting stuck a few times, wound up on some random ATV trail. We were going through one part and there was a big stump sticking up in the middle of part of it and we hit it pretty hard. About 30 seconds later a the two kids in the back and I started to smell gas. I mentioned it, and was worried about that stump we just hit, but didn't say anything else. About a minute later the kid behind us on the Dirtbike starts yelling. My heart sinks.
We get out to check and we did infact puncture the gas tank. Well, we didn't actually puncture it, we just knocked an old patch off of it. I guess since the tank is plactis it bent and the patch came off. Once we found out, we hauled out of there. Half way down the trail, there was a big pine tree across it we couldn'tgo around. When we were going bck the dirtbike found a path that let to an open trail that ended up at the main road.
After we got back on the main road he pulled of ont a side road and I got on the dirtbike to go back and get my truck. When I got back, we stood around and weighed the options. After a few minutes of debating, he got in his Jeep and tried to get home asap. The rest of us loaded the bike into my truck and tried to keep up. He did 75 the entire way and ran 2 red lights. He miraculously(sp?) made it home without running out. When I left, him and his dad were going to get a patch for it.
Even though that kind of sucked, I want a 4x4 truck even more now. I'm going to lok at a Bronco or Jeep or something tomorrow.
