    What boredom does to people.

I was bored and I just finished the electrochem unit so I decided to apply my knowledge at home. The solution contains aqueous hydrogen peroxide and sodium chloride. As you can see the Hydrogen peroxide decomposes in only a few seconds leaving just water and NaCl in solution. Anyone with chemistry knowledge should be able to explain the light, those who have no idea just look in the street and youll see the same thing. Having a video camera makes life so much more fun. WARNING: the video contains swearing and I dont know if that's a bannable offense so if it is I ask the mods to just take it down rather than going straight to ban.

well the light appears to be sparks, lightning, you know, its trying to complete a circuit.
yeah, it does look like you are going to electrocute yourself. you might want some adult supervision. lol. did you use round tip scissors to cut the extension cord or whatever that is? you dont want to poke youself now.

so what was happening, anything significant other than it looks like it boils and makes sparks?

Sorta curious, what's the H2O2 for? Could you not just put salt and water together?

By the way, I'm pretty sure that's not boiling, it's the (I think) hydrogen and oxygen separating and coming out of the water. It might be some of the NaCl breaking up, I'm not real sure.

I'm really suprised that didn't trip the circuit breaker. Isn't the light just from it arcing? There's gonna be a lot of current running through there. Be careful.
