YES!!! I've tried these threads a couple times here, never with any success.
I'm a senior, rowing for West Springfield High School here in northern Virginia. I coxed my freshman year, and have rowed every year since then, last year and part of this year in a light 8. Now I'm in a 4, as well. I've become totally bisweptual, thanks to coaches experimenting.
What are your times like? I pretty much suck, just recently PR'd on my 2k at 7:24.8, putting my power/weight at a measley 1.61 (according to my recent fatty weigh-in of 158.5 pounds). I like to think I make up for it on the water though, my coach has pretty much relied on me to teach form to the rest of my boat this season.
edit: I stroked while I was on the light 8, now I'm 3-seat in the 4.

rowing? HA.
Sailing is where the action is at.
btw, Bob......if you have any wishes of doing anything on the water at CNU....you'll join the sailing team.
I'll protect you from the hazing.

I heard the crew team there consists of about 8 peopel total, and is pretty much a failure. Confirm/deny? I think I'm basically gonna be a slackass next year, at least first semester, take some time to get the feel of the place before I jump into anything like sports or a job.

The Crew team is no more...well, pretty much. Their sponsor left/quit/gave up and dumped it all on some poor freshman girl to handle. At that point the remaining members of the team left and she was stuck with the responsibility of explaining to the school why a trailer full of skulls and whatever were going to go unused indefinitely. So naturally, we(the sailing team) stepped in and were like "hey, let us have the crew stuff. We'll sell it and help pay for some stuff we need." The remaining crew girl plus some other crew chick are joining the sailing team next semester.
So the short and skinny is this.....Crew at CNU does not exist. However, those of us on the sailing team would love to have ya. We are basically a fraternity without the dues, and coed. The regattas on the weekend are a blast. And we take care of our members the best we can. Feel free to PM me about any of this.
btw, yeah, I recommend you stick to that plan. It's a good idea to keep the load light the first semester just so you can feel things out and get used to college life. However, you'll quickly learn to love it.
Oh yeah, and when we get to school, I'll buy ya a beer and show ya around.

One time I went out on a row boat with my friend when we were kids and his puppy followed us off the dock trying to swim after us. Then a muskie ate her. Not the friend, but the puppy. It was traumatic. After that we hated fish so we dumped canned corn off the dock and killed all the sunfish with a shotgun.

My times suck too. My best 2k score is around a 7:57. I weigh about 135lbs. I coxed last fall season. The two seasons before that my coach was also experimenting with me so I'm bisweptual too. I think I've rowed every seat except for 5.Comment

Yeah, we are. Seemed to make sense... could be, uh, interesting, to say the least.Originally posted by Python14Oh, so I've got two AO folks to manage now?
Yall rooming together?
That's basically how the sport works. If you want to do it, you have to love it. Crew IS your life for at least 4 months of every year, generally more like 6 or 7. In the spring you're on the water 6 days a week, and I'm usually doing something crew-related on Sundays too. Yeah, it's tough, but it gets you in shape and really keeps you healthy. Plus, that feeling of getting eight guys moving exactly together and gliding through the water on a perfectly flat river, as the sun is setting on a calm, 75-degree day... there's really nothing in the world like it.Originally posted by SpecialBlend2786a couple friends of mine are on rowing teams. At the same time, it lends it self to being rather clique-ish (some would call it a cult
), all of my best friends are fellow rowers, and we tend to all hang out together at school and outside of crew.
What school do you row for? You gonna be at Stotes or Nationals?Originally posted by warbeak2099My times suck too. My best 2k score is around a 7:57. I weigh about 135lbs. I coxed last fall season. I row for McQuaid Jesuit High School. I actually just got a personal best today of 7:54.9 so that's cool lol. We won't be at either Regatta. This weekend we are going to NY state championships (I'm going to my Junior prom so I won't be there, sucks for the rest of the guys who don't have the balls to stand up to our coach!). We'll be going to some others this spring in Buffalo and CSSRA's in Canada. I think we might go to some in Pennsylvania too, and if we qualify at states, we'll go to Mercer, NJ.
I don't think I'll be doing it next season. Our coach is getting to be a real jerk. He's gotten worse over the years and it really does me no good to keep taking his crap. I'm actually thinking about starting a school paintball team next fall.Comment
but I used to row with this kid right here ^^^
