Don't even bother arguing with them, just because they get half the amount of viruses MS gets they think they are the shiz.

        They aren't.

          a) It's a lot less than half - try zero for Mac OS X

          b) For my needs, and the needs of many others, the Macintosh platform is the best choice for the job. The recent sale of OS X Tiger all but confirms that.

          c) That security (which I will agree is partially due to obscurity) is a huge plus. Can you honestly say that it's not a good thing? Especially when you have a ton of important data on your HDD, even if it is properly backed up.

          d) We are off topic - this has been beaten to death. In the end it comes down to personal preference. It doesn't matter if you drive a Chevy and I drive a Ford - we can both drive the same roads and fill up at the same pumps.

            Newsflash!

Two reasons why people don't have as many virus issues with non-MS OS.

            1. Are the virus-writers going to target MS, which owns like 95% of the market, or spend all their time targeting 5% of the market? Its not that they are less vulnerable, its just that they arent an interesting target.

            2. Almost all attacks on the MS OS are after MS has identified a problem and put out a patch. The virus-writers learn about the vulnerability, and design their programs to target it. And, of course, the majority of users do NOT update their software to eliminate the vulnerability. How, exactly, this becomes MS's fault is anyone's guess.

And keep in mind that MS has to engineer their OS to be a LOT more flexible than Apple. Mac's dont have to deal with the massive amount of software and hardware that are engineered to work with MS OSs.

              1. Obviously - as I stated. I personally like that fact. While they are less vulnerable to an extent, you are correct that the system's obscurity helps mask it from attack.

Tiger allows me to get what I need done right the first time, while still fast. It's automated pretty darn well, and my workflow has improved 10-fold since I made the shift from Windows XP to OS X. That is what affects me. If I am able to get my work done faster than someone else, and better thanks to the OS's ease and automation, then would I not be a fool?

We are all entitled to our opinions, no matter how much we may disagree with the others. I don't jump out and call you a moron, and you didn't do the same to me(cough - Rooster - cough). I respect that.

What it boils down to is what you are most comfortable on. For myself, that is my Mac. I don't have to worry about the technical side (which I DO understand unlike some), just the creative side. That is what matters. The fact that I can get my work done faster, and at a higher level of quality thanks to many Mac-only tools.

That is what it is all about.

OS X = BSD - this alone blows a big hole in several of the things you've been saying.

Arguing which is better is goofy... like arguing that a car is better than a truck or vice-versa.

I have no problem with the Mac OS, and in fact I really like it. I don't think MS is any better than the Mac OS, but when someone starts crapping on windows I can't let it slide.

EDIT: Eh, you got your post in a minute before me. But that racing game looks awesome. A few years ago and I would swear that was a real photo. What do you think "XY" means at the bottom of that pic?

im not to fond of the new x box. personally im waiting for the ps3. gamespot even had some guy say that all this talk about "the next generation console" wont even be all its hyped up to be until the release of the ps3 sometime next year.

here are some pics from "2 days to vegas" for the ps3 (its also coming out for the xbox 360, and i see no difference in the screen shots) sorry 56kers

I hope those were early screen shots of the city. It looks so right on teh city, kinda dirty but not bad, like it should, then all the cars look like they just got a coat of wax, even that semi - the lack of license plates bugs me (or holes to attach plates too). Things are just too clean on the cars... too crisp
