    Passport to canada????

    Aight homeys, heres the lowdown.

Me and my buddy have been planning a trip to canada for months, and as we were going thru our checklist, it dawned on us that my friend didnt have a passport and i know that since 9/11 passports are sort of necessary to leave the country.

We were going to leave tommorow, bu ti guess now are plans come to a screachign halt and this sort of screws us bad.

Is there any way we can attain a visa when we arrive at the border or something along those lines so that we dont have to wait for a passport to get issued to my friend??? And effectively save our trip?

    Thanx guys.

im 95% sure that you dont need a passport to travel between the US/canada. there has been talks of introducing it, and it is going through, but apparently not for another 2 years or so.

        ummmmmmmmmmmm

        no

last time I checked you only need a driver's license...and thats only if they ask you for it..

there was a proposal to force everyone entering the US to have a passport by 2008... but that has been pretty much been squashed

You don't need a passport for either Canada or Mexico.

Last time I went I just needed an ID and my birth certificate, the ID was to get into Canada and the birth certificate to get back into the US.

However I was going on business and not vacation so I am not sure if there is a major difference there or not.

It is however much easier to cross the border in a car then in an airport.

                  correct

                  Also
I would suggest getting a passport its so much easier then having a couple forms of ID and a birth certificate.
cost around a hundred bucks and takes about a month to get.
good for 10 or 15 years.

All you need is a couple of pieces of ID. Canadian customs is tame. It's the US side that's anal-retentive.

I'll call them and say your coming. The search won't have ANYTHING to do with what I tell them.

Depends on mode of travel lol ... in the Airport coming back in the US side was a pain in the butt with the person checking me through giving a ton of grief about being a former Marine. I actually got her pulled off the line and yelled at by her boss who was also a former Marine ... was worth almost missing my flight.

On the flipside when I drove to Burlington to pick up someone the US side let me through without hardly asking any question and didnt even search my vehicle. The Canadian side stopped me for like 30 mins asking me about my work, and what I was doing even though I had paper work pre-authorizing my exit and re-entrance for a six month time period.

A lot of that also depends on where you cross and what time ...

you can always run across the border. I think they said its something like one border guard for every 20 miles or so of border

You need a photo ID and an orignial Birth certificate with the raised seal at the bottom .....a photo copy of the certificate is not acceptable.
