It's crazy, going accross the Us Can border in buffalo new york area... My dad, mom, me and my (arg) 3 sisters have to all talk to the booth person individually, and they look breifly in our car for a few seconds, and never stop asking questions when we meet the U.S. people, and when we come back the canadian just says "Are these your kids? Were you in the U.S. for business or pleasure" and lets us go... Happened 2 times. (I'm canadian might have something to do with it...)

a lot of it depends on who the person is at the booth..

Im in Niagara Falls (Buffalo area) and cross with my friends.. there are times we dont get IDed either way.

they ask where you were born, where you live, Ive never needed a birth certificate.

I know someone who was turned away at the Canadian border because he didn't have a passport. He must have gotten Hitlar himself or somthing for a gaurd because he had his drivers license as well as his pistol liscense and they still refused to let him into Canada without a passport. This was last summer though maybie we were on a "red" terrorist alert or somthing.

My brother doesn't have a passport and has taken a few trips across the border into the states over the past few months...I would assume it's working both ways, for now...

They don't like to publicize it, but frontline Customs work is often done by poorly-trained students. They sometimes get over-zealous.

We drove to Alaska about...5-6 years ago, and we just needed a birth certificate and ID, IIRC.

In lieu of 9/11, though, the border HAS tightened up albiet only a little. I don't think passports are a requirement now, they WERE thinking about it.

They're $50, last for 10 years. Just go get one. They are good to have.

Okay, now that I'm back from being bedridden *COUGH* LEt me help some... Starting 2006 it will be mandatory for Canucks(not sure about Yanks, but prolly) to have passports to enter the US. For right now they are still accepting the standard 2 pieces of ID, birth cert, and drivers licence or some other form of photo ID.

Like TP said, unless you need to travel now, get the passport it can only help with the border crossings. Believe me, sometimes they can be soo much fun... Ask the Detroit boys about my last trip there.... I'm too tired to type it now...

That's a good point. Canada Customs seizes a lot of handguns at the border crossings. If the person had the pistol with them, and refused to give it up, they would have been denied entry. Also, a student Inspector may have opted to refuse entry after seeing the license, if they were afraid to demand a search of a possibly-armed man. It would have been the wrong decision, but Customs officers get a lot of discretion.

I'm starting to think you don't need a passport to get into America either, lol. Anyways that's good news for me cause i've been thinking about taking a trip up there eventually, you know, to see what it's like up there.

Skip Toronto ... its just New York's slower twin brother hehehe honestly though they have a "We Love New York" weekend were most of Toronto goes to New York ... odd.

Goto Montreal, take a Saturday to goto Skorpion Paintball in Laval. Excellent people and a really nice indoor field. I did a write of them last year for APG.

Make sure you get some Poutine while you are there also you'll love it.

Last time I checked, if you have a firearm less than 18 inches long, they can be sieze it.

pu-tin = well... depends what part of town you're in. But it's not something you order in a restaurant (slang for prostitute)
