    A sad tale to tell....

A few of you met my Boss, Robin. He and his family have suffered a great tragedy this week. If you feel generous and want to help there is a way. If not then at least you can pray to whatever diety you worship for them.

Robins wife Lisa suffered a Hypertensive Hemorragic stroke this past monday. She had to be flown down to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and is still in the ICU. Critical but stable. We have no idea when she will awaken nor how much damage might be done and might be permanent. Time will tell but its going to be a long haul either way. Months. Possibly a month in ICU.

Robin and I have worked up until last Saturday to finishe her scooter to give to her on Mothers day. We, for the most part, did. And she rode it for the first time on Mothers day Sunday. The day before she suffered her stroke.

Lisa is 41 years old and had no history of high blood pressure. But apparently did have it. At least episodic problem. She is the "stay at home mom" of four children. She is also the "surogate mom" to many other children whom she has mothered and supported including my Son when his mother died. So she is a special person and this tradgedy is wide felt.

Problem is now they are facing a very critical period. Robin as the sole wage earner, will be hard strapped to deal with this. With one child in College and three more in the home at various ages to take care of and then there is Lisa now needing care... well its going to be difficult in many ways. One of the main ways her friends and all that can are going to try and help is to take away one of those hurdles. The financial one.

See... our Insurance is like many others. There are deductables and percentages. As it stands now his liability is $10,000. Immediately. For the year. And its expected he accumulated that somewhere on a chopper en route to Atlanta. And each and every minute in ICU is ticking up. But hopefully the limit of his damage there is around $10,000. So we are intending to see what we can do to help with that. So he can move onto all the other problems he needs to deal with. By the way, he knows nothing about this and we not telling him until its collected. He would most likely be embarassed by this. And I don't want to do that to him.

So as a first step I, and several others of us including Fatman have started a donation Pay Pal account. In the first day we are at $1200.... we got a lot to go.

If you want to and if you feel you need to then please donate. Even if it's just a little. It adds up.

There is a link on my site, cphilip.com titled "Lisa Newberry Medical Fund".

That donation means the most of all. It comes from the heart and it's worth its weight in gold. Every little bit helps. It not only helps her.. and her family... but don't you feel better? Thanks so much for that donation. It humbles me when someone comes across with whatever he can afford to do. Your a hero in my eyes Lord123...

Phil... anyone else I would question it, if you say you need it, you need it. I've done what I can this month, its not much but I hope that everyone can do whatever they can afford. If 100 people look at this and say my $1 won't do much... remember that you alone will seldom do a lot, but there are a lot of people, and a lot of people together can move mountains.

You guys got the right idea. A dollar here and a few there... can change someones life around. In this case can let them go on living. What touches me here is that your just rarely see a old fashioned neuclear family unit anymore. This is a dying breed of people. Those that put family before money. And I hate to see them not succeed in that. I wish more could be like this.

I forgot to tell you what preceeded her incident. She was responding to a call from her Daughter that had been in a car accident. Her daughter is fine but has some bumps and bruises. Had her seatbelt on and was punched by the air bag. Other than that she is ok. She was the passenger in a car leaving school that was hit head on by a car crossing the center line. Lisa was on her way there and was, of course, upset. Then she became ill and had to pull over and call for help. She was then rushed to the local hospital. And they immediately summonsed the Medivac Helicopter.

I am taking her oldest Son and that daughter that was in the accident up to Atlanta tomorrow to see thier mother for the first time.

I heard they were able to wean her off the respirator today. She is breathing on her own now. Thats good news. I will keep you updated. She is responding to stimulus but still remains mostly asleep. they think they can take the drain out of her skull tomorrow. So she is stable. Time will tell what damage if any is permanent to the brain. I read that its like this with these kinds of strokes... 25% Fatal, 50 percent some to serious damange, and 25% almost completely recover after like 3-6 months. So the odds are there is some damage to overcome. Even if she gets lucky and is in that last 25% that recovery takes time and physical therapy. So its going to be tough. And as of right now the financial damage has been done. Upfront they looking at 10 grand. At least.

Its things like this when they hit close to you that remind you that at any time and at any place you can be gone. And how will your family fare without you? And even if your not gone... what kind of burden will they bare? Makes you want to take better care of yourself? I feel my mortality more and more these days.

Give what you can guys. Don't put yourself in a bind. Do what you can. there are many causes out there. Do something for each and every one of them. It will add up.

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for your help. The family certainly will appreciate it.

I have a very generous donor that wishes to make a challenge to AO. He says he will put up $250 if all of AO makes $500 before that. He wishes to remain anonomous for now. I will update daily. So make sure I know its you from AO. Post here you made a donation. You do not have to say the amount. I just need your name. So I can match it.

Thanks guys and gals. Your truely the best.

I am so sorry to hear that. My dad also suffered a stroke. Way back. He was and is never the same. Before that he farmed and enjoyed working hard outdoors. But lost all that to that stroke. So I know what you mean. Thanks.

Thanks again guys. I will update you Sunday with her condition. And how it goes with the kids visiting her.
