ok as someone who just got through a class in web programming and design i thought i'd put my two cents in. as nice as all that stuff is i don't think a vineyard is looking for a lot of fancy flash. i could be wrong of course (i don't know anything about their product or target audience). however i think that a vineyard would be looking for something clean and professional looking. something a bit more refined. in other words no fancy animations or sounds. we're talking wine. not bacardi or smirnoff's here. i'm not saying that any of you are incapable of doing it but i just don't see it in the example pages you've given.

as an illustration here is the first website for a vineyard that comes up on google when searching for "vineyard". i have some issues with it once you get past the main page but the basic design ideas are good.
Explore our award-winning wines, visit our estate, and experience our commitment to sustainability and quality.

here is the bacardi website. if you don't see what's wrong with this you're going to be putting out the kind of crap that we like to make fun of in class.
Do what moves you with BACARDÍ Rum, a true taste of the Caribbean. Learn about rum cocktails, our events, festivals and fascinating history.

i'm not offering my services as a programmer as i'm not quite there yet. i wouldn't feel comfortable taking money for something i don't feel 100% about. i can do a nice looking static page but for a commercial site i'd want to use php and scripting that i'm not proficient in yet. and if you wanted to sell online i don't know anything about ecommerce engines.

Your comment about the fancy flash doesnt really apply, because think about it this way, its only fancy if you make it fancy... Keep in mind u always start with a white page.

And thank you so much glickman for the compliment and I got my preloaders working now! www.attackingecho.com

yes well it's not an issue of coding ability it's an issue of design ability. if you're not doing something fancy you don't need flash. you should be able to do it with straight xhtml and css and it's almost always better that you do so. making web pages isn't just about how much cool stuff you can do. nor does the ability to do cool stuff automatically grant you the ability to make good pages without the cool stuff. making a commercial web page is very different from a personal web page or an art web page or a demo web page. it's about achieving that company's goals, creating a user friendly interface, making things aesthetically pleasing and consistant with the company's image, and just in general connecting the company with the customer in the most efficient way possible. i stand by my comments when i say that the websites you have shown don't tell us anything about your ability to do these things. i have no evidence for or against your ability to do this. you haven't shown anything like it so there's no telling. you could be very good at it or you could create a horrific page that looks like something a 5 yr old did in frontpage. if i was hiring for this i'd want to see some work that's at least somewhat similar to the job at hand.

MantisMag, i understand, and fully agree with most of what you said. As a flash designer, I know what it is capable up, and I know how to make something formal, while using the correct effects for this application. If he wants me to do this, I already have in mind ways to properly fit the marketing scheme typically applied in Vineyards. I would really appreciate it, if you would let the original poster comment on what he needs, instead of swaying him either way, because I simply am trying to earn a couple bucks, and another portfolio piece. I know I can do it, and I would understand your posts more if you were actually offering him something...

i'm not posting stuff against you so much as i'm looking out for ntn. i don't need to be in competition with you in order to say to someone who honestly i know a little better than i know you "hey, make sure you know what you're getting into." don't take this as anything personal or me trying to screw you out of business. i'm just giving an honest evaluation as someone who knows a little more about this stuff than most of the people here. you've got your fanboys to tell everyone how great you are. don't get upset when someone gives an honest but negative evaluation. especially as it's not even a critique on your work. just an observation on relevance.
