First Accident... Yay!

Well, I've been lucky up until today. Some driver was kind enough to give me 0.5 seconds to decide if I wanted to plow through the side of her car, or hop the curb at 45mph. She was in the lane left of me with stopped traffic, and she put herself halfway into my lane - and completely stopped.

I thought I hit her, but it was the impact of the curb being more than I was expecting. I pulled over, she just kept going - didn't catch her plate. In a way I'm pissed, but I'm happy that nobody got hurt and my car didn't get wrecked. I got lucky that I was literally a block from the shop.

My steering was screwed up, the front/right wheel felt funny, and my wheels/tires got eaten - I'm guessing that something was bent or broken. I'm not looking forward to the bill...

I have to think to myself... I avoided wrecking her car, probably her getting a ticket, and her insurance covering my damages... and instead she goes off on her merry way while I'm inconvenienced and will end up paying out of pocket because it probably won't be worthwhile to use my insurance. Kinda torqued about that.

To top it... the dealership said they can't give me a courtesy car because I'm not 25... although I'm not too young for those bastards to take my money. I can't easily rent one for the same reason...

Oh well... what can you do.

Think of it this way, if you would have avoided hitting her and instead of hitting the curb, you hit another car. It now would have been your fault and she would have got off scott clean for being an idiot.

Sorry to hear about the car, you could turn it into your insurance so you would not have to pay for the upfront costs, they can also get you a rental.

That would piss me off to though, seeing her drive off like that. I bet she didn't even know what happened. Lots of people go through their days in their own little bubble, not caring about anything untill it effects them personally.

And I learned from the morons that run body shops in Iowa that if your going to hit someone floor it and call the vehicle a loss. The hacks don't know how to fix a car up right if their life depended on it.

Is it just me or have American drivers compleatly lost it recently? The reason I ask is because I've seen ppl are entering an intersection from the far right lane (yes the lane on the other side of the yellow line), ppl taking right turns from the left lane, ppl doing 60 through an intersection where the speedlimit is 35 and the light turned red before they got there anyway, ppl doing 25in the left lane of a two lane highway only to honk at me when I almost rearend them then pass on the right side and some guy driving around with styrofoam pieces flying out of this box of his pickup while he's talking on the phone?

I noticed that the sudden rush of adrenaline almost seemed to slow down time... if that makes any sense. It might be my imagination, but my perception of my surroundings increased - right at that moment I was aware of where everything was. I consciously decided that the sidewalk would be safe - it wasn't a knee jerk reaction. No poles... no pedestrians. It's like in less than a second, I had time to think: "I'm going to hit her. No wait, I can go this way." The same thing happened when I was falling, before I broke my leg...

On a dirtbike, I notice whenever you are about to do something stupid, or just did do something, everything magically seems much clearer, and you think much faster... Kind of good how the mind does that.

I totalled a '76 Austin Mini by crashing 45deg into a highway crash barrier. I watched the windsheild crack ever so slowly, and the top of the lateral brace under the package shelf (no dash) bend.....

I crashed my car at 100 into the center median on a freeway. I don't really remember time slowing at all, but I do remember moments of almost frozen time...scary moments, lol.

Nope, I remember being about to hit the poll then seeing the airbag come out. The actual half second of impact is gone.

And people like that are idiots, they cause an accident and without a second thought they drive away. I would have slammed right into the moron and sent her the bill.

You can fight that but it's hard. You need video or several good witnesses of the person infront of you doing somthing extreemly stupid.
