    Special Ops Paintball: Brigade...???

My buddy, whose getting more and more into scenario paintball saw this site and wanted to know more about them. Anybody here ever been a member of the site, or been to any of their events? They mention how they give all these freebies (mostly pods and patches, simple stuff) away for free. My question is, what's the catch? They appear to have their own field somewhere, so I first thought maybe it was simple field promotion. However, they make is sound like they have members across the country, so there can't be that many people trekking to their place spending money. I just wondered why go to all the trouble of having freebies and a decked out site, complete with member pages and whatnot, if they aren't selling something.

    AO's thoughts?

You only get the free things when you order something. Having a site that filled with information/goodies attracts people to the site which leads them to buying in the store.

If it's the same club I'm thinking of, they've got members all over North America. A friend of mine here in Canada is a member.

Yeah, I spent a little time just looking through their site. It's amusing...it actually reminds me a lot of when I was a kid and we played Army. They give you this personal webpage where you can "track" how many kills you make as opposed to times you are eliminated As if you couldn't lie about that.) They even assign you a "rank", which is kind of comical because it's based on points you "earn" by your years in paintball, how many times you log onto the website, and how much you buy from the store. So, essentially, you can buy your way through the enlisted ranks until you get to officer status, then you must take an online test to see if you're officer material. That amused the hell outta me actually.

From what I can tell, it seems harmless enough although their forum board is rather smacked with righteous indignation about how much better woodsball is than speedball, and they are this underground revolution against mainstream paintball play. I find that funny. The have their own "woodsball manifesto", much like the "das untermag revolution" manifesto Tom created (and still ranks as one of the oddest, and most inexplicable things I've ever seen on AO to me). What's with everyone needing a manifesto or creedo? Hell, just get out and play...don't worry about what "cause" your serving. I don't know...I like scenario and all, but I love speedball. I don't see why there has to be the division.

ONE DAY THE UNJUST OPPRESSION OF SCENARIO-PLAYERS BY THE ELITEIST SPEEDBALLING CLASS WILL BE BROUGHT TO A SCREECHING AND VIOLENT HALT. THE STREETS WILL RUN RED WITH THE BLOOD OF EVIL TYRANTS.

I hate those kind of things. Where people go around with as similar stuff as they can get to the real special forces guys so they can get some sense of accomplishment or adventure in their own dull lives. its paintball guys, a recreational sport...

I think they should all be executed by Rangers or something along those lines.
