    8 points on my license!

Not exactly something to be proud of...stupid cops set up a speed trap on a road where I thought the speed limit was 40. I had just turned onto the road and was accelerating when a cop who was standing on the side of the road waved me over. My girlfriend thought it was probably her seatbelt, which she was only kind of half wearing, but it ends up that the speed limit was 25...it's a business district and a 2 lane in each direction road. Why the heck is it 25...anyway, about 50 feet down the road it turned to 40 so I was pissed. I was going 38 is what the cop said. I'm going to go drive the road again and see if there was a speed limit sign between where I turned onto the road and where they pulled me over. I don't know if it'll make a difference or not though...what do you think? Oh, and my mag was sitting in clear view in the backseat too...thought he was gonna make me get out of the car for a second there. Anyway, in my opinion, cops need to find something better to do with their time than to stand on the side of the road writing tickets for speeding (there were 5 of them)...I know some people think that since breaking the speed limit is breaking the law, that makes speeders ciminals and therefore the cops are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing....No no, pull me over sure, but I didn't know the speed limit and I'm a nice guy and extremely respectful but yet I get the ticket...I'm 3/3 now for getting pulled over and getting tickets...what ever happened to a warning once in a while?? So pissed...

i just got one for going 50 in a 35. it WAS 45, then turned to 35 but i didnt see the small sign in the bushes. as soon as i passed the sign the lights were on.

im glad the cops have so much free time on their hands, not like there is ACTUAL crime happening.

Another thread about speeding and more people complaining about the Cops use of time...

Guess school's out and everyones brain took a vacation.

Drive the route and look for the sign. If you can't find one, you have a legitimate defense. That is if there isn't some city general limit you should be aware of.

Cops have to enforce ALL laws. And they have to spend some time enforcing each of them. Otherwise, who would obey them?

And running over a pedestrian because your speed caused you to require twice the stopping distance IS a very serious crime.

And as far as REAL crime, which crimes do you think are most likely to affect the average citizen?

I already had 6 points...the cop reduced it to 10 over which is a 2 point offense. I suppose I'm not a cop, so I really don't know the other things cops could be focusing on besides speeding...the average cop probably isn't working on a murder or rape a couple times a week, but I'm sure there's other cop business to be done. I guess I'm more just pissed that I got another ticket that I can't afford, again. I'm going to drive the route again and look for a sign like I said...but then I guess it's just me saying that I pulled onto the street at a certain point. The judge can believe me or not I suppose, because I don't think the cop saw me pull onto the road. Anyway, I don't blame the cop for enforcing the law, just that it keeps happening to me, and it's always situations where it just doesn't seem like I can help it.

Usually there is a law governing max speeds when the speed limit is not marked. The trick would be to find out what that limit is, and argue it from that standpoint. For instance, the maximum speed limit in a residential area might be 25 mph unless otherwise marked, so you argue that it wasnt a residential area. Remember, its not practical to have 5 million speed limit signs so that everyone who turns onto a road from any particular point immediately knows the speed limit.

                    no doubt.

i was sitting at a friends house late one night. i watched at least 3 cops almost completely blow a stop sign.

i've been pulled over 3 times: running a stop sign, 32 in a 25, and a 79 in a 65. 1 out of 3 of those times i had my license with me.

                    haven't got one ticket yet.

Taxes pay salaries. Fines go into the general fund of the city.

With all due respect, Army, I've seen plenty of cops stop at a red light... turn on their sirens, blow the intersection, and then turn off their sirens once they got to the other side.

I see this also but you must understand that not all calls require lights and sirens to be on constantly. If they just need to get though a light to go file a reports or other non/not big emergency they wont run lights the whole way.

We have the same deal here. You get off the main road which is 55mph onto a much smaller road where the speed limit is 30 but their is no sign for the first 300ft or so. You get on at the very begining of that road so they really should have a sign but you're just expected to know.
