Well, I'll give you my sympathy/empathy story...
Generally, the mother gets the kid, and the dad gets to pay everything, and the dad traditionally is the bad guy. Well in my little story, my mom was the "messed" up one and somehow through the canadian system, he got us. This was through my mothers taped death threats and a hole bunch of bull****. The last time I talked to my mom, she told me "ever talk to me again, and I'll tell your grandparents your father murdered you, you are dead to me anyways"... Yeah, my mother chose alcohol over all of us, that is why I am never buying more than a 24 a month.

My tips towards you and your brother paying insurance is just to go ahead and do it. Because your live through so many problems and stress trying to get anywhere with the legal system, it just isn't worth it. Sure, the extra money in your pocket is nice, but whenever you spend any of it you just remember your annoying memories of why you got it.
Although, I'm still a young kid and have no idea about reality, seeing as I am still in grade 9..
