Anyone used one of these? I want a mp3 player in my new truck, but don't want to change the factory headunit out. This looks like a promising new direction... IF it works.

those casset things are lame. The cables lay all over the place. This thing supposedly plugs into the aux port on a factory headunit that supports a factory cd changer or satelite radio. It translates the controls coming from the headunit into something the ipod can use, but it only works on the new generations of Ipods. In theory you could run the cable to the glove box and never have to see the ipod again unless you want to add mp3s.Comment

I haven't had great luck with my iTrip. It has to be right next to the car stereo, and even then the reception is pretty poor.
My friend runs an RCA cable out to his head unit. Two in to the head unit, normal headphone plug into the iPod.God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.Comment

I have used something like this for my iPod. It works great! I love it. It sounds just a good as a CD.
You have to make sure your head unit will accept it.RT Pro ULE w/ Stiffi and 68/3k Flatline...... YUMMY!

sweet! According to everything I read the sound quality is outstanding... where you able to use the controls on the factory headunit? I've been reading about a 50/50 success rate with this. But it sounds like there are sooo many different versions of this, which is pretty obvious why, that ppl accidently order the wrong one for their vehicle.Originally posted by OhMyAMooseI have used something like this for my iPod. First off, iTrip or any other kind of FM modulator sucks. Unless of course you like incredibly crappy sounding music.
The way to hook your iPod up to your car is a hardwire connection. If you want to to keep your factory headunit the best thing to do is to buy one of the adapters that converts a sat. radio input into a normal stero input. From there you would buy a nice car dock for your iPod with a line level out and plug this into your cars new stero input. With this solution you use your ipod controls to change soungs rather than your factory buttons.
go to www.ipodlounge.com look at there forums, they have a section devoted to in-car solutions for iPods.

Well i mean if your head unit has aux imputs in the back u can jsut gget a 8th inch to two chanel rca cable and plug that int your head unit, then whenever u wanna use it jsut plug the 8th inch into the had phone jack. U dont get to control it wiht your stereo controls but it is still great sound quailty and much cheaper then that thing. This is what i do and i have alwasy been very happy wiht it.
