Does anyone know a way that I can get my PSP to recognize a memory source besides the memory stick duo?

I have a 5GB USB removeable harddrive but I can't get my PSP to recognize it and I need more memory than my 256KB w/ out buying a $100-$150 memory stick. If anyone can help me or knows somewhere I can get some help I will be most grateful.

Oh and I'm not taking my PSP apart.
