    Didjeridoo Players?

    Sooooooooooooooo
    anyone here play the didjeridoo/didjeridu/didgeridu/didgeridoo?
for those of you who dont know, its an Aboriginal instrument traditionaly made of termite-hollowed eucalyptus. it makes that humming/buzzing drone that you usually hear in movies about Australia, and the like. i like it a lot, and its tons of fun to play when you learn how.
i have a kind-of crappy bamboo one, but it was cheap and a good stick to learn on.

I've played one in the past. I had a friend who was a music major so he had all kinds of cool instruments. It's similar to playing a tuba or other brass instrument. Quite enjoyable really.
Where are we going and why am I in this basket?

no, but I did make an aboriginal instrument for 6th grade music class way back when. i can't remember what it's called, but it's a piece of thin wood (think like the head of a paddle, but not so wide or long) attatched to a 10 ft long rope and you spin it and it hums, pretty loud and pretty deep. I made it out of a piece of wood siding from our house, i think. i was suprised when it actually worked.

I can play a little. Have a large one (oo-er) and a small one.

            Have you mastered circular breathing?

Well, I can do the straw/water method pretty easily, but I'm not that good at it with the Didj yet. Its hard to keep enough air in your mouth to create the sound for long enough to refill your lungs. But, its inspired me to not smoke cigarettes any more--or at least cut down a lot.

I've got one that I picked up in Cairns, Austrailia. I haven't quite mastered the circular breathing either...it's a pain.
I really enjoy scaring my cats with it!

How exactly would you tune a log that's been hollowed out by termites?

yeah the noise you get from a mouthful of air is slightly less loud than the normal noise right? So what they do is incorporate this noise into the "tune" so that it just sounds like a part of it.

                    Did that make sense?

Also a good trick to try is to hold one nostril down with your finger, and when you try to breath in, its easier to intake air through the one nostril whilst keeping some pressure in the mouth.

That makes no sense.....good job Im not a didj teacher lol!
