Not all AMD64 chips are that expensive. Here, they start at $145.

I agree with the above post, it is worth going AMD 64 as opposed to a 32 bit processor.

Alright, even though the system I outlined above is far more expensive than you outlined, use it as a general model. That motherboard is the BEST board out right now for gaming. There is NO REASON that you should think that you MUST get it. In terms of the future/expandability, it IS the best bang for the buck, but it isn't your only solution. As for RAM, the thing that you found looks fine. I would keep the Hard Drive that I recommended regardless of anything else you choose. If you are looking for the cheaper route, I would highly recommend getting a Motherboard with an AGP slot. Look for an NF7-S and outfit it with an Ati 9800 Pro, that will get you rolling. If I was still in NJ I'd give you the one that I have lieing around, but I litterally JUST brought it out to Missouri (It even had a processor and RAM in it!). It is an EXCELLENT board, I have 3 in use right now, one in my main box, another in my brothers and the last one in my mother's case (yes, you read that right). Anyways, I would think this through carefully. It may be worth it to set your project back 1, maybe 2 months, in order to get the PCI-E board and AMD64. But going the other direction certainly will not be problematic.

notice the much lower L2 cache... but still, AMD is my preference...
