Well, my brother's wedding is coming up in July and I wanted to do something cool for him (since I am the best man). I've been into woodworking for a while and am also a musician, so I thought a handmade guitar was a good idea. He has been playing for about five years, and has jokingly asked me to make him one for about two years. Here it is.....not completely done yet, but almost. I still need to seal, lacquer, polish and add some decorative stuff......The top and neck is made of honduran mohogany, and the back and sides are made of zebrawood.

I did a lot of research on the internet on instrument making (which is known as luthier or something like that) and used one of my other guitars for dimensions.Comment

I thought about buying a kit from Carvin, and then putting in my own internals...maybe a Jackson sustainiac system..

It's from scratch. I bought 81s for it, but ended up putting them in one of my other guitars. Now I've got to buy something else. hmmOriginally posted by Automaggot68Using a kit, or from scratch?

Haha, Score!
Why not go with those EMG style pickups? I dont recall the names of them, but Caparison's use them standard. They're awesome little things.

The fretboard is a little bent up where it meets the body, but other than that, it works fine. I put on one string to see if it actually sounds like a guitar, and it does. I'll be lacquering it Monday and Tuesday, so I'll let you guys know how it plays on Wednesday.Comment

Yes, I did know enough about guitars before i started to know about fret spacing; however, I researched things like bracing and tone bar patterns, as well as nut and saddle info.Comment
