has anyone else here had this vile english "treat"?
it is brewers yeast extract that you are supposed to put thinly on toast..... I have never had a food that I could not eat... I tried this and as soon as it touched my tounge everything in my body said NO!!!!

it is like trying to eat a boulon cube but far worse

Yeah, the current advertising campaign has a 'You either love it or hate it' theme, one of them has some guy giving his leftover sandwich (obviously marmited) to a hobo then walking off, only to have the sandwich thrown back at his head. Personally I hate the stuff, but my brother loves it.

Rumour has it that one can reproduce a convincing pint of guinness by filling a glass with marmite then topping it off with shaving foam. This also has the added advantage of tasting better.

Marmite is great, doesn't just have to be on toast. Marmite sandwiches are fantastic but then as Jonneh says the advertising campiagn is very truthful as you do either love it or hate it. The trouble with it in the States and Canada is if you do like it is that they have no clue where to put in it on the supermarket shelves as generally it is in the baking section because of the label saying yeast extract. Now as an alternative you could look for Bovril as that is beef extract and that is also good especially when you have a cold you put a spoonful in a cup of hot water and drink it...sounds vile I know but it isn't and of course you can use it in the same way as Marmite...but then they also do Bovril cubes for adding to food like the boulion cube you were talking about.

I'm a hater. A girl from england at my school brought some over with her. I nearly spit it out when I tried it on crackers. If there was a taste that epitomized being stale, marmite is it.

Manjar. In chile, its called manjar, other places its called dulce de leche. Baisically its condensed milk and its turned into like a caramel. its soo good.

Marmite is wonderous. Love the stuff. In fact I could eat it by the spoonful.

Vegemite however just mings more than Prof Ming taking his minging exam.
