Perhaps I should have put the word new in bold letters.

I just wanted to clarify thing for people, perhaps just like you, that may think "hey, I got the old one off this way... I'll put the new one on, and just duct tape the hole."

      You must be new here.

An oil filter wrench is nice to have as well although if you want to save $6 and its stuck punch a screwdriver through it.

        i heart american made stuff.
i can take apart my whole cutlass with like 5 different wrenches.

        most of them being

        1/2, 9/16, and 5/8

The Ford dealership stripped out the drain plug on my truck once when my dad took it to get changed. They put an oversized plug in it, and when I changed it last time the gasket they had on there was shot so we found an o-ring that fit it. About a onth later I guess the o-ring broke and it started dripping so we went and got one of those hard gaskets from a parts store and it's still dripping a little.

Thats why I refuse to take my truck to a quick lube place now.

Really? Depends on a lot of variables.

Personally, I think my time is FAR more valuable than the amount I spend on a reputable grease-monkey.

I used to do my own work. Resussitated a dead K-car wagon engine myself.

Now, the car that's under warranty goes to the dealer and the other has returned to the dealer after an unfortunate bout with an incompetent independant shop.
