I'm going to NYC next month...

...And I can already see bad times happening at the airport. I'm planning on trying some "warwalking" and hopefully I'll be able to get a signal in my hotel room, but I've got like a 6" antenna for my Wi-Fi card and I can already see them scanning my backpack, seeing an antenna and tackeling me or something.

That and my mom's cinvinced they're going to be searching us for shrooms because the email I used for booking tickets was "[email protected]"

But anyway, we're going because my sister, who is a street artist that goes by the name Swoon(Here's a link to an interview with some of her work), is having a big art show in July. And my mom has been freaking out because the Museum of Modern Art just bought like 6 of her things. I always knew she'd be famous in some way or another, so it's no real surprise to me.

The same thing as wardriving. Except instead of driving, you're walking.

It's where you go around with a laptop and look for wireless networks.

          Haha that's great.

Wouldn't you be easily hacked though? Or is that just me.

No, not really. If they're stupid enough to leave their network open, chances are they won't be able to tell you're connected or know what to do.

How is that a waste of a vacation? I've been to NY before, and imo, it's nothing special. Just a bunch of buildings and people. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool place, just nothing special.

And besides, I'm not going to be doing it the entire vacation. Just part of a day or something. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get something in my hotel room.

Just make sure you chalk any open nodes you find.

I do this also, but I used a PDA with PCMCIA wireless slot and wireless network card using the PDA version of Netstumbler. Its less obvious to be walking around looking over a PDA then it is a laptop.
