The only thing I can think of is try downloading another anti-virus and running that, but no anti-viruses come to mind. I bet someone on here could help with that though.

The only sure way if the AV software is not doing the trick is a clean format and reinstall.

You may have luck removing the hard drive from the infected machine and installing it in a non infected machine, then usnig the AV on that system. A lot of malware will interfere with AV software. If you boot from a clean disk and run the AV you may have better luck.

        umm come again...

well i dotn know how nor do i want to do any of the above...but i do have a question sicne you seem computer literate

im using a wireless router...the software it comes with has a firewall option but hwen i cut it on it loses conection with the modem..so how can i protect the connection?

As for the virus i turned my back up **** off so it doesnt get in there an im goign to keep using norton on it till it doesnt coem back...its some email virus...and it made a back door somewhere to block a port and is trying to acces stuff but i believe norton stops it but its sitll there...its kinda like sleeping with the enemy...for lack of a better metaphor.

          You guys's suggestions suck.

          Download Security Task Manager: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html

Quarantine all dlls and running processes that should not be there. Odds are something is running in the background that is not caught by the AV... and keeps restoring the trojan.

          Also, run HijackThis: http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3...ml?tag=lst-0-1

Remove all stuff from your registry that should not be there... using this.

If you want, post the log file and I can look at it.

Ahh blissful ignorance of any and all security measures, must be fun. (not you que)

I have no idea how you turn your firewall functionality on your wireless router on. It will be quite specific to the model and brand of the router. Somone else who is more familiar with consumer level gear may be able to help a lot more than I am.

You can and should also get a host based firewall for your machine (aka a personal firewall). Sygate and Zone Alarm offer free ones. They will allow you to see what programs are trying to get to the net, and allow you to control access not only by port, but by program as well.

Do the Internet a favor and make sure your machine is clean. Infected hosts are the bane of the net, and are the source of most DDoS attacks and spam.

              It's not a firewall problem.

He ignored my cleanup suggestions. Without real forensics tools and experance, the only way to clean up an infected machine is a format and reinstall. I can't offer much more there.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A host based firewall can not only prevent a lot of worm/viruse exploits, it can also show you what is trying to go ot to the net to "phone home", or bind to a port and create a back door. Not only that, but they are nice and free for personal use.

miscue's suggestions are great. also i like clamwin anti-virus. i use it an norton and i actually really prefer clamwin, plus it is free. It does an amazing job of finding stuff norton misses. especially trojans and other malware.

ClamWin is a Free Antivirus for Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003. It provides a graphical user interface to the Clam AntiVirus engine
                    download it here

and if you have trouble deleting a file (you delete it and it keeps coming back) you can download a tool that works real well for deleting stuff at start up called move on boot

Norton is trash. Uninstall it, and get AVG Free. You'll be better off in the future.

what's the name of the trojan that it's picking up? A lot of the time you can go to the authors site and get a tool/instructions to uninstall the trojan

AVG is crap. You'd be better off with nothing on your machine than the false sense of security you get from free antivirus.

mikey101 has a good suggestion. Norton/Symantec has directions on their site to clean just about anything. Also for future reference boot your machine in safe mode prior to running a virus scan with the intention of cleaning something off.
