    Car Advice

So, my parents are finally letting me buy another car...we won't go into what happened to my last one.

I need some pointers on something that would be fun to drive, with not a whole lot of maintenance. Something that can be upgraded would be nice too.
    I have about a $12k spending limit.

I'm open to pretty much all suggestions.

    New or used?

You could get a damn nice 4th Gen F-Body for well under 12k.

Used. And parents are supervising me, and although they don't have final say, it'd still be nice if I could find something they approved of.

Depends what ya do to the last car .

IF it were me id buy myself a nice little pickup truck and a motorcycle for fun (heck thats what i am doing lol.

But if i wanted a GOOD daily Driver/Fun car it be a 1989-93 Ford Mustang 5.0L GT. It aint glamerouse aint the fastest and hell aint even the best looking but their simply put FUN and get decent milage to boot. Their quiet possibly one of the EASIEST cars to mod and are VERY capable on the strip with little work. and for 12k you can get one in DAMN good shape and modify it prety well.

The only thing ya gotta watch for is by the sounds of it your still YOUNG and inshurance is gona HURT. And dont tell me your parents gona pay for it so you dont care cause if nothing else that PISSES me off as it shoes NO responsibility or independance.

If I were you, I would probably get a honda civic or accord. Hondas are some of the most affordable and reliable cars availiable. They get good milage and are pretty low mantainece. Plus they are easily upgradable.

          Go Honda!!!

            Wellllllllllll...since you asked...
My old car was a 2004 WRX (brand new). I was cruisin' down the freeway at 1am, no one else on the road. I see a pickup ahead of me. I'm in lane 3 he's in lane 2. I decide I don't want to change lanes at my speed and so decide to just pass him on the right. Now comes the fun part. Just as I am about a car length away from him, he decides it would be an awesome idea to change into my lane, no blinker or anything. So I swerve to lane 4, and am so freaked out that I try too quickly to swerve back to lane 3. I didn't give the car enough time to straighten out, so I lost control and swerved into the center divide, totalling the car. Had a passenger in the car. Neither of us were hurt at all, fortunately, and I managed to not hit the truck either.

So yeah, pretty much my own stupid fault.

Took a highway safety driving class, learned how to perform high-speed lane changes the right way .

As far as insurance goes, I'm gonna be splitting it with my parents. They pay the base, I pay the extra from getting in the accident.

Oh, and for some reason I have a personal dislike of almost all Mustangs...probably because at the High School I used to go to just about every other car was a 'Stang.

I think any z06 will go for more than 12 grand. Unless it's wrecked, maybe.

Definately extra lube. I keep two bottles at all times. Can't leave home w/o your lubricant.

Do not get an american car. They are not as good quality as a Japanese or most German cars.

Hey gifted Retard minuse the Gifted part ya living up to your name LOL.

I own BOTH an american TRUCK and a German Car further more im ALSO a mehcanic for a living So i THINK i know a tad about cars lol. No brand of car is better than the next there just all built for a differant purpose.

I dont see ANY Honda or any jap import or german import pulling a 12,000lbs Horse trailer down the higway but my Ford can and live to 400,000miles doing so.

I am sorry if i sound harse but haveing worked on cars and trucks all my life i HATE the one brand is better than the other MYTHS.

IM sorry to say all cars are welded and bolted with the SAME materials. They all follow the same basic buld designs and all use similare technology.

Once ya spend some time on the floor fixing these things for a living youl reliaze they all the same they break you fix em no matter who makes it.

meh for some reason i was thinking 20k u could still get an 89-92ish standard vette though in good shape for 12, just not a zo6 and it doesnt sound like ud be willing to do any fixeruppering heh

                      my bad.

maaaaby... dodge stealth RT turbo/ mitsubishi 3000gt turbo (same car)???

pretty nifty for the buck and i think they look awesome, should be right around 12k. make sure to get the turbo model, its a world apart from the rt's and standards.

Stay with something simple. A problem with cars like the 300z is that yes it is awesome, but performance built cars usually are pretty expensive to take care of. All the standard maintance parts and such are more than on a regular sedan. I personally would go the TDI Jetta route, as they are some of the most practical cars ever built. Who can argue with 35-40mpg city driving?
