A Brew at Lunch...? Sure! why the heck not?

So I'm about 5-10minutes away from work, it's real simple to get there, local traffic n such. Office Job, Big Complex Building... typical 9am-5:30/6pm I get to take 45min to an hour up to lunch, my choosing. So basically, I get stuff at a local deli or Pizza/Trattoria, and bring the sucker home to relax and enjoy... huge acre+ of land for a backyard, all fenced in and spayed, landscape architec. whatever... peaceful place.

Now, on one individual afternoon I came home and didn't have a single beverage of sorts other than water. Naturally, i went to the basement to the "Battle Fridge" and got myself a nice cold bottle o Yuengling. It's an old fridge my father has always had and filled with Wine and Beer of randimo and stocked assorment. Growing up it was under lock and key, but nowadays (i'm 22 ) it's always been open since I came of age.

That night my mother happens to notice the bottle in the recycling... she flips out... "thats a RED FLAG... ur an Alky" yada yada.

I'm 22, rapidly approaching 23... can't I have a brew (or a duo) with a meal when I feel like it? Lunch should be no diff, etiquette my arse.

Not a single problem with it in my mind. I regularly drink two to six beers during a lunch break. Ironically, generally the shorter the lunch break the more beer I drink. Sigh... I hate my job.

Jonneh or MarkM can correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly, one of the staples of the working man's workday is the "ploughman's lunch". It consists of a big-assed sandwhich (on...rye?) and a pint.

granted... getting sauced at work in the UK is a bit more acceptable than getting sauced at lunch here in the states -- some employers tend to frown on that, even if it's a beer.

        BUT,

as a drunk (alcoholics say they have a problem) myself, I don't see anything wrong with that

I thought a ploughmans lunch traditionally included hard cider, not beer, but I could be mistaken.

I used to regularly drink a beer with lunch when I worked for a local pharm company. Of course they encouraged people to get drunk while at work, so it wasnt a problem. Such a fun job...pretty much the stereotype of .Com excess.

Most everywhere I have ever worked definately frowned on the "drink at lunch". As far as I know it would be a firing offence. The only places that have allowed drinking on the job (framing or other construction services) ended up being places I didn't work long. There is nothing worse that a bunch of construction workers drunk in the sun.....

Personally I think it would be a serious sign of unprofessionalism to go into a retail/services establishment and smell alcohol on the employee. I would seek the assistance of another if not go to a different place entirely.

I have no problem with drinking, and enjoy my right to regularly. But that is an activity (in my mind) that should be reserved for leisure time.

A beer a day does not make you a drunk. Although, make sure you know your company policy about drinking. Some places do not care, others state that you can not have an alcoholic beverage x hours before work, etc. It would suck to lose a job because you had a brew at lunch

There's a 30pack in the office fridge as I type.
And my keg tap is sitting on the secretaries desk...

I miss my .com fun palce (in it's prime, it was crap later). Beer on fridays, beer at lunch was aok. I never saw anyone abuse it. It was very nice to walk around the office troubleshooting machines with a bottle in you hands on friday afternoons.

Eh, what are you gonna do? Its your mom. Every good mom is worried that her boy is gonna be an alcholic. Everytime I have a beer in front of family, she just looks at me with that condecending look.

                        Oh and Yuengling is good

What's most surprising is the fact I'm actually drinking Yuengling again... considering the "AO MEGAMEET INCIDENT", that many seem to recal... heh.........

I'm 22, and live in the fraternity house too. It seems there is always a reason to drink. It's amazing how not dry our campus is, considering it is a dry campus.

Man everyone talks about how good Yuengling is.. but you can't get it up here...

Who wants to ship some up to Maine?

Yea, my parents accept the fact I drirnk, it's ok with them.
However when they find a couple bottles in the recycling they are like "ahh you drink too much"
Yea, sure that's alot of cans. And I havn't recycled in over a month.
