Here's the best way to do it:

Aim for the torso; when they double over, shoot them in the legs/feet; when they are crawling, shoot them in the head (3 shots per person). The more you do without missing, the more you get for each shot.
I usually go for the shotgun after I get frustrated

I got a 3545. I personally liked the torso to the head shots with the pistol


EDIT: Taking 'em down with the pistol and finishing 'em off in the head with the shotgun is always cool, too
