    Need music recommendations...

I just got an iPod and now have found myself with very little music. I used to listen to the radio all the time... Never really bought any CD's or knew what artist was singing what. Just listened.

All of the songs that I have are listed in a print screen image that I took. The three pictures are attached to this post. You can kind of sorta see what I like. Well, maybe not, as that is all I have.

I just have one other question... How the hell is Nickelback classified as metal?

Well the attachment thing is not working for me. I'll go ahead and get them hosted...

        ill agree with squid

then ill give you some rather "interesting" recommendations...

        folk:

1.bob dylan is king, he blends into every genre and if you can get past his amazing yet nasal voice you will find that he is perhaps the best lyricist AND songwriter of all time. for his more standard sound, try blonde on blonde, for some lighter stuff try new morning, for some real folk try bob dylan (1), and for some jazzed up newer stuff (grammy winning) try time out of mind (all albums). of course there are plenty more to choose from, but i think that should give you a good idea of what to expect from the man. from hard rain to john wesley harding, hell take you on a trip.

        2. los super seven, yeah, if you have any toleration for latin music, try this star studded bands take on tex mex/folk. all theyre cd's are great but very different, so sample before you buy

3.jack johnson, you should know who this guy is, youve been hearing him all over the radio this summer, pick up a copy of his newest cd, and when ur ready, a copy of his first two works.

4.neil young, yeah its grunge but he fits under the umbrella. start out with after the gold rush, then try harvest moon.

        5. nick drake

adult alternative/singer songwriter/rock (dylan fits in here too):

        1. teitur, catchy stuff, for the first 7 songs at least

        2. five for fighting, like dave matthews lost the acoustics and went a little more pop, NYC weather report, superman and 100 years are songs you might recognize.

        3. dave matthews (its all good)

        4.bruce springsteen

5.eric clapton (unplugged=most listenable cd ever)

6.beatles, how do you not have any beatles? white album.

7.randy newman. "showt peoples aints got, no reason to liiive!"

        8.Tenacious d, funny acoustic metal

        9.allman bros band

10.spirit, no, its not christian music, its 60's psyc-rock (12 dreams of dr. sardonicus)

        11.pink floyd

12.tom waits. you need to hear the album ALICE just so you can say you heard it. even if you dont like it, you still need to hear his take on some standards plus some of his own on "closing time".

        13.norah jones, do it now

        country that doesnt suck:

        1. jerry jeff walker. listen to the album viva terlingua, then hit up mr. bonjangles (yeah he wrote mr. bojangles).

2.johnny cash. u know this one already.

3.willie nelson, more under singer songwriter but since he wears a cowboy hat ill put him here. try him out, if hes too bland for u letem be.

4.dolly parton, hey, shes got a cool voice

americana(real country, not that nashville **** thats been on the radio these last 50 yrs):

1.mary gauthier, try her new cd. its da shizzle, very high re-listenable value.

2.john prine, the country side of woody guthrie and apprentice of kris kristoferson. hes the man. for you to understand the lyrical value of his songs im going to have you read the lyrics of "flag decal" imagine a country tune played on a guitar, no backround instrumentals:

        While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
        Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.

        Chorus:
Oh, but your flag decal won't get you
        Into Heaven any more.
        They're already overcrowded
        From your dirty little war.
        Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
        Into Heaven any more.

Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
        Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.

        Repeat Chorus:

Well, I got my window shield so filled
        With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
        And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
        I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...

"But your flag decal won't get you
        Into Heaven any more.
        We're already overcrowded
        From your dirty little war.
        Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
        Into Heaven any more."

hehe, its funny. anyway, john prine is good stuff.

3.chip taylor, long time songwriter to the stars has been doing his own thing for a long time. tell me private thoughts inst the greatest song ever written

start with that (i got a million more when ur done, and other genres as well), then tell me if youre stil llistening to blink 182 and ill suck your

                Jakedubbleya:
Most all of those songs I think my dad would like more than me. Sorry. They all seem like blues or jazz. The one song that I came across that I liked was by Dave Matthews... American Baby. I already have that on my ipod though.

                AcemanPB:
Red Hot Chili Peppers is alright. I have one of their cd's, probably their worst cd though. Sucks for me.

                MicroMiniMe:
                Same.

Have any of you ever heard of Powerman 5000? I asked two friends and neither have ever heard of them. I don't know how, they are like my favorite band currently. Look them up, every one of their songs on the album Transform is awesome.

What are some other bands similar to them?

                Thanks.

The new Foo Fighters is really good. Some Incubus for the mix. At the Drive In, Mars Volta, Reggie and the Full Effect, Atreyu, System of a Down, Matchbox Romance, Third Eye Blind, The offspring, Butch Walker, All American Rejects, the Ataris, Journey, Queen, The Eagles, ACDC, Manfred Mann, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, some emo stuff doesn't hurt everyone once and a while, but remember take it in moderation or you will find yourself cyring outside Starbucks. Thats just a few taken off my playlist right now. Its good to have a mix of old classic rock and the modern alternative.
