How many is a couple?

If you're talking about a couple of peope - it's always two.

But if you ask for a couple apples, how many are you asking for?
Got in a arguement about this at work. I think a couple is three. They argued some was three.

I have always thoguht of a couple being 2, but depending on the item(how many of the item are in a certain spot etc) 4. and a "few" being 3...And Some being 5...And if the "some" of those are small (example - screws) just a handful. Crazy Canadians
